ticking/tapping under bonnet

So lately i have noticed a ticking/tapping noise comming from under the bonnet. I do not remember hearing this sound when i first got the car so it is sort of puzzling me. The car is still very new, its a 2006 mini S with less than 3,000 miles (ya ya i need to get out and drive more )

Anyways, the noise can be heard while the bonnet is closed. So i Opened the bonnet and looked to see if i could tell where the sound was comming from. At first it sounding like a fan blade ticking against something. But once i opened the bonnet i could tell the noise was comming from the engines head area. Possibly the coils/spark plugs or maybe a valve??? I dont think its a valve because the engine seems to be driving fine.

Has anyone else experianced this noise on their cars? and is it the coils making the ticking sound?

Any info to put my mind at ease would be great.

It could possibly be your pcv valve. They usually make a ticking noise, or at least it does on my car. I'm quite sure this is normal. Also, check your oil level. If the oil is low, your car could have a ticking valve. Not a big deal, just top up the oil if that's the case.

ummm... I think I might know what it is..

Push in your clutch, and if the sound stops, it's your dual mass flywheel.

If so, MINI will replace it for free, it's a known issue

If it keeps doing it and the car otherwise runs fine, it's prolly injectors. They can be unusually loud.

Do you have anything like a TSB number that I can quote the dealer if they give me any trouble? We are having the same problem. Thanks!
