When I went to get my leaking thermostat changed, Mike directed me to talk with Jeff (in finance office) regarding extended warranties.

I spoke with Jeff this morning and for my car, a 4 year (beginning at my cars 4th birthday) 100000 mile warranty is $1900.00 . That does not sound outrageous to me, but then considering the money I seem to have thrown away in the stock market.......

Jeff says they only recommend/sell warranties through Universal. Anyone have any experience with this company? I have yet to read anything about the warranty, is it a true bumper to bumper? He states this is the PREMIUM warranty (whatever that means). <----- Mark forced his way into my paragraph. I will have to read over the policy to be convinced, that is unless someone here can tell me they have the same policy.

Thanks, guys and gals!

The one thing you need to check is if there is a deductible for claims.

When we got our Clubman, we decided against the extended warranty, but we did get the extended maintenance plan. It covers oil changes, brakes, clutch, cabin and air filters, belts. Seemed like a better deal. I think you can still get it for your MINI, you should check it out.

When I got my 03 MC I got an extended warranty, that was good to 95k miles, and only used it once after the regular warranty ran out. I had a leaky block heater(Canadian thing) the heater replaced the frost plug in the block, and it started to leak coolant. Not needing a block heater down here, I just had the dealer install a frost plug, cost about $250, deductible was $100, so my $2000 extended warranty did not really pay off

Hope this helps,
Mark

Thanks Mark,

My MCS has the extended service policy out to 100K, which the gal that owned it purchased from Autohaus when she purchased it in Nov. 06.

I am just trying to weigh the possibilities that an extended warranty would pay off for me. Keep in mind, this is my first Mini and NEVER had a BMW either! Kinda thinking that $1900 may be good piece of mind.

Hello:

I work for a local car dealer & we deal with a warranty company called Universal. They are located in KS. I am not sure if that is who you are speaking about. If so ,they are very easy to get along with. A few things you might consider: How long are you planning on keeping the car? You can choose various deductibles to offset the original cost. Bumper to bumper is "salesman' talk.Get in writting exactly what is covered. ( the dealer should have a folder on what is covered/not covered) There is not a warrany out there that covers bumper to bumper.Ie light bulbs, hose, clutch disc, brake pads etc. Does the warranty co pay for diagnosis of the problem?Do they cover shop supplies? What if the warranty co only pays $90.00 per hour but the shop rate is $125.00? do they provide you with a rental car if your car is keep for xx amout of hours? do you get to keep the rental car if the part you need to repair your vehicle has to be ordered? Does the repair shop charge the warranty co or do you pay up front & the car owner deals with the warranty co? You will need to perform & keep all maintenance receipts.I know I have gone over a lot of items but being in the service dept I deal with this daily. Pm me if you have more questions

mtchbox,

I did check, and Universal pays the dealer. Other companies reimburse the policy holder which I guess is okay but the other way is naturally better.

Mark,

I remember listening to the list of things that Lois went through, the problems with her Cabrio. I would hate to start having problems like that and not have a warranty to stand behind!
