Earthquake???

I thought the dog had jumped up on the bed and done a few circles before laying down. My daughter's got up and shared the news that my assumption was in fact not the case.
Got up, checked around the house and all was fine, made coffee and started the day a bit earlier after the Earth's alarm clock went off....

I just posted in the rants page but I am sick of the media already. They dont have to take me back to middle school and tell me what to do in case an earthquake (after the fact none the less) but I remember VERY little about the quake of '89 in San Fran, I was in our red POS car at my bros Soccer game and I remember "the rolling hills"
That was a big deal, this one... Not so much

my response:
"nope I was too busy levitating a foot off the ground to feel it.. Did it feel the same as it did 5 hrs ago?"
Her response.. "Smart A$$"

Earthquakes are NOT new to this area. We have faults all around us. But because of the geological map of the midwest, they are not felt as much as they are in California. I grew up in St Louis & have felt many. We're not chickens, we just don't feel them as much or get as many as our friends on the West Cost do. So give us a break, Mr Wise Beyond Years So He Thinks Plus, if a bigger one is on it's way, you'll be scattering as much as us native Midwesterners

Yeah, we felt it in Indianapolis. I was up and getting ready to open the back door to let the dogs out when it happened. I didn't feel it as much as I heard it.....the rumble. I was standing on a stairway landing, so maybe that absorbed the shaking. At first I thought it was a ghetto car going by with their bass turned up , but the sound was really, really low.....and then I heard something fall over in the basement. At that point I figured it out. Pretty cool.
I agree about the media. I was mad because I never did hear the weather report or get my traffic report for the morning drive .

I lived right along the Mississippi in the late 1980s. Never knew the largest fault line in the US was centered within 100 miles of where I lived. The New Madrid fault is a HUUUUUUUUGE earthquake waiting to happen. Not a matter of "if" but a matter of "when".
Did one of my college papers on that fault line. Quite an interesting history. Some day it will have another, tragic, chapter to add to that history. Let's just hope it's not any time soon.

I slept through the first one, and have felt nothing here in Kirkwood. Where I'm from, Manitoba, there is an almost 0% chance of an earthquake, so if I do feel one, I'll be sure to let everyone know.
Did feel some big ones down in Guatemala, left the country that day

When I was living in Japan for 4 years, one of my co-workers would make a hash mark every time there was an earthquake that at least five of us could feel.
At the end of my tour, he had 692 hash marks in the tablet.
Most were in the 5-6 range of the richter scale. Only two were serious quakes.
I'll take tornado or hurricane country, thanks. At least there's some warning.
