Dragon West?

I'm sure there are some threads on CA roads already but let's start another one. First I'd like to encourage anyone that can to attend Mini Meet West hosted by NorCal MINIs and MOASF this summer.

I'm perfectly willing to sponsor and organize a Dragon type event on the West Coast. I'll talk to Mark about it and see what we can put together.
So...let's find a road.

Perhaps we can start here. I see a MINI/Giants relationship forming...any takers?

I'll informally announce the germination of WEST COAST COOPERS. The site is under construction but here's the premise:
  • Members to include residents from Alaska to Baja California , Mexico including British Columbia, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Arizona,Utah,California and Western Mexico. This is by no means exclusive and all are welcome to join.
  • Central info hub for all MINI and Mini Clubs in our region.
  • Attitude free. Fun is our first name.
  • annual dues and discounts for multi -year memberships.
  • Amazing and exciting events with live music, delicious scenery, sumptuous food , challenging activities and the best roads the West coast of North America has to offer.
  • Tech clinics and installs hosted at real garages with lifts.
  • Discounts on parts and mods with the purchasing power of a very large group.
  • The ulimate Swag, of course.
Stay tuned for the official launch of www.WestCoastCoopers.com

Now seeking interim board members pending an election in November 2005.
email address to follow.

I just wanted to make a little correction. Norcal MINIs is co-hosting Mini meets West.... with the amount of time that MOASF has spent working on this project, you'll want to give credit where due.

I think a west coast Dragon is great. The starting location is beautiful. Looking forward to your ideas regarding WCC.

Sounds good to me, there are endless possibilites of roads in the west that are great. Finding just one might be the problem . AMVIV is a blast, but I think that a different type of meet would also be fun. I've been wondering about a multi-day traveling meet, kind of staged. ie. start in the foothills of the sierras, go thru napa, and maybe end up on the coast. I dunno, possibilites seem endles.

Let me know if I can do anything help.

I have a line on some houseboat rentals in Shasta County that sleep 15 or 16 people. They are expensive but split between 16 people it's about $60-$70 per night. Sound interesting to anyone?

West Coast Coopers is born!

Our new URL is www.westcoastcoopers.com and to get started while I'm building the site I've started a Yahoo group at http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/WestCoastCoopers/

If you're interested in joining yet another club , c'mon over so I can get an idea of who's interested.
Spread the news to your friends from Baja to Alaska. I'm drafting some emails to the powers that be of the clubs in the region to announce our presence and to welcome and support them in national and regional events.

No dues for now until the site is up and the swag is ready. Here's some prelim art.

AMVIV is certainly the MINI event to be at if you're willing to drive to it, but due to the sever lack of twistie roads anywhere close by that our MINI's can "streach their legs" on, I doubt it can be called a "Dragon" type of event. The Dragon is very special due to it's location (up in the Smokey Mtns) and the quality and quantity of MINI-worthy roads. In AZ we have a road that's similar (Hwy 191 aka old Hwy666), but much longer (nearly 100 miles of twisties) than the dragon, but not quite as twisty. The great things about it are there's not many access roads, and it's not heavily travelled. However there's also a sever lack of places to stay overnight. camelpilot, I've gone to each MINIs On The Dragon Meet since its inception in 2003, (as well as several times on an informal basis), and it is well worth it! You won't regret the trip...it's a wonderful area and running Rte. 129 is like riding a roller coaster in your MINI!

I have to say that I really do like Jeff's idea about West Coast Coopers! While AMVIV is really a great Southwestern regional event, the urban location makes it a very different sort of event from the Dragon. I love attending AMVIV, but I think that Jeff is looking to find a more remote, rural and twisty area similar in feel to the Tail of the Dragon area in North Carolina/Tennessee, yet located on the West Coast somewhere.

Jeff, let me know how I can help you with WCC. I like the concept!

Now now Clo, you know better than most, AMVIV's much more than a SW regional event. People from the NE, W, MidWest, NW, S, and SW have attended the events. It's open to all who are willing to travel out; not limited to the SW.

Highway 36 from Redbluff to the coast is a rocking MINI road. 143 miles of major fun twisties. Then there's the avenue of the giants. Check out Pashnit.com for all of the Norcal twisties

I worked for years building bridges in that area. Highway 36 (and Highway 3 - between 299 and 36) are not only twisty, they are also relatively lightly travelled. The northern portion of Highway 3 (from 299 to 5) and Highway 96 from Yreka to Willow Creek (140 miles) are also a blast.

Hey, Dom! I never said AMVIV is limited to that region. That is simply where it is located and therefore, the majority of attendees will be from there. Sorry if you were offended by my comment. I meant no harm to you or to AMVIV.

AMVIV is open to all MINI and Mini enthusiast, same as I understand MOTD is. I think Clover's point was that the vast majority of attendees were from NV, AZ, NM, UT , CO and CA. The close states. I'm sure MOTD sees the same kind of thing, with a predominantly east coast attendance roster.
AMVIV certainly does have the issue that someone mentioned, there are limited twisty roads in the area. When the city is surrounded by desert, there's not much incentive to build fun roads rather than fast ones.
That map in the original post in this thread looks like the roads should be fun, but for those of us who rarely, if ever, make it to California, where is the proposed stretch of road? North of SF? South of SD?

May I suggest something here?

When we say West Coast, I suppose we cover the whole entire “west coast” Therefore, why not picking places in CA, OR, WA, and heck even in BC, AK and/or Baja California. Life is short, but there are many longer roads to motoring for fun & exciting.

Let’s explore each year a “state” to be more diverse!

That’s my 5 cents idea

Please Ma don't yell at me
