You're right, California has "a lot of excellent roads" ... and I really love find out more

When I said thank you, I did mean THANK YOU for your suggestion to consider other MINI enthusiasts outside of CA!
It was not a sarcastic statement.
Man! The more I read this thread the more I get exicted
I just can't wait to see it happen
I think DVLMINI has more "privilege" to choose the first run 'cuz he's ...umm...da 1st
It seems like we have MINI "Clubs" all over the west coast and most of them are well organized. I think each "local" club can petition their suggested location for the next following runs. I hope WCC will democratically vote for the "chosen one"
I like to think 'bout Utah, AZ, ...etc... included in too
... Oh yeah, no problemo dcsmd007

Having worked in that area for years, I would not recommend anything past the end of September.

I don't think I would want to try to plan that however!

I make the run from San Diego to Seattle at least once a year, I'm headed out again in August, and I love the Leggett to Rockport run both ways - at 1:00 am it's like a being in a big video game. The asphalt is fairly new, and the bigger vehicles seem to avoid it because of the twisties. There are a fair amount of decreasing radius turns, tho, and it's seriously hard on the brakes. I've never stayed near there, so I'm not sure of accomodations. There are also several roads in Oregon that I like around Tillamook, (we can get fresh ice-cream, and cheese, too! Yum!), especially the constant-radius turns - very easy to go fast and safe.
I would prefer to leave the Avenue of the Giants out of the equation even tho it's full of nadgery bits, as its posted speeds are very low, for a reason - it's more of a pleasant shady drive than a hell-bent-for leather run.
Being from the southern end of all this, up and down Mt. Palomar is always a hoot, and the eastern parts of Sand Diego, Riverside, and the surrounding LA area have skidillions of great roads. The wine country has its own attractions, as well as some nice places to stay, but I've never done a serious twisty there....yet. ;-)

Thanks for the input. I'll have to look into my slang log for "nadgery bits" but I've heard the same about the Ave. of the Giants and perhaps we'll schedule it in as a 'scenic' drive over the course of the event. Although it's not a challenging road, some might enjoy the leisurely pace of a pretty drive.
