Very sorry for your loss. Maybe it's fates way of saying you belong in one of those special addition 06's or a turbo 07. Hang in there, this too in time shall pass .

[QUOTE=shenmue2]I've seen on the news where the theives usually get your VIN number and pose as you at the dealer to get a spare key.

They recommend covering up your VIN # that you can see thru your front window.QUOTE]

The only way you can get a BMW/Mini key is by showing the reg and drivers lic so no need about covering vin#.

I know how you feel I had a car stolen several years ago........thats why we have insurance but it is still a pain. Good Luck.

Silver - I am so sorry to hear about your MINI. How terrible! Mistakes happen - don't beat yourself up - there are worse things in life than a stolen car, although few things can make you feel so *(%&!! angry!!!

This won't help you, but I am currently feeling a little better about my dealer forcing me to buy Lojack.

I hope your insurance company takes good care of you.

Carol

No fun Silver! Best of luck in some resolution in the end. I'm with Cooper4u on this, you probably will not want it back.

I had a car stolen years ago and when I got it back drugs were found under the seats and there was some horrid smell in it for months.

That sucks. I'm sure it will be recovered in a few days unless it went to Mexico.

I've done this several times...left my motorcycle key in the MINI, the MINI key in the old Ford truck , etc. It's a simple mistake. We live our lives a little too hurriedly, especially here.

Sorry, I guess living in Miami you become extremely obessive about taking security precautions.

I don't think I want the car back. It will never be the same. I am trying to get my 78 Rabbit project finished. 170whp in a car under 1800lbs.

I've been working a lot lately. Yesterday was 17 hours. Also, I live 3 miles from work, so I don't drive very far.

I've ordered the plates shown in my signature. They should be here in a couple more weeks!

I'll chime in with the "you don't want the car back" folks. My Integra was stolen the night before I was flying to pick up my 2003 DS/B MCS! Got it back and I had to deal with the missing parts and crap so I could sell it. Cost me a significant amount that was not covered by insurance (like the $500.00 in prescription glasses I rarely wear!).

The funny part was calling my insurance company the morning it was stolen and when told I had rental car coverage, I had to explain that I was going that night to pick up my new car and didn't need a rental car. There was a very long pause on the other end of the phone while the agent thought about the possibilities of "who" stole the car.

Very sorry that happened to you, it is such a violation! Sad that the laws are such we can't drag these people behind the cars they have stolen once they are caught!

The car has not been found. Must be in Mexico. The insurance is paying about $1000 dollars under sticker, plus tax and license. The Mini had about 7500 miles on it and was 6 months old. I miss my Mini, but I don't want the car after it has been molested. It would never be the same.

I think you are better off this way. Once you get the settlement check you can order a new MINI if that is what you want to do in the end. But whatever car you decide to get in the end, please be careful with those keys.

Yep, I'll agree that you don't want it anymore. Will you get another MINI or will you get something else?

Sorry to hear about the loss of your car - I've had a prior car stolen - you feel violated.
I know others have indicated this (covering up VIN) isn't true, here's a little more proof from the best "debunking" site on the web:

I don't think I am going to buy another Mini right now. I just got my 78 VW Rabbit running. Now I need to find a good paint shop. This will be my toy for now. It has a built 2.0l 16v, Bilstien coilovers, big brakes ect. It should put down about 170whp and weight 1800lbs. It reminds me of my Mini. Not as refined (no AC, noisy) but it rides better than my Mini on runflats and Konis. I may buy another Mini after they change the Motor. I would perfer all motor or turbo. I am also looking at the Audi TT Quattro 225.
