Also, I was wondering where you guys get your mods done? Where is a good place to get the Mini worked on. I am currently looking to get an intake/exhaust system. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Miles, welcome aboard! I've added a response to your exhaust intake thread. There's some performance companies in CAl that do cater to the MINI. Ones that come to me right off the top of my head are: MiniMania and M7 speed. I'm sure there's others, I'll leave that up to the people who do live there...I'm in AZ.

Welcome Miles to MCO! just about the friendliest place to talk about your MINI!

As far as mods, I've installed the Borla exhaust, K&N Typhoon intake, Magnecor 8.5mm plug wires and 35% tint all the way around. Did the intake and plug wires myself, had the Borla installed by my local muffler shop and Mr. Tint in Temecula did the windows. I know that there are a few MINI-friendly shops in the LBC too, just look around a bit to find the thread.

Keep an eye out for a VR/W MC cruising around OC. I work in Costa Mesa and usually travel all over during the course of my day! Who did you buy from?

Kilo, if you live in North OC, you should try Kenny's Muffler off of Lincoln (just west of Walker) in Cypress. Ask for David. He did my custom Maganflow for a very good price.

Thanks for all the suggestions and references guys! dbwilldo, I live in Costa Mesa, have you ever been to that shop on E. 17th St and Pamona? They mostly work on older Mini's. I'll keep my eye out forsure! My mini is yellow with a yellow top, hard to miss!

Also, do you guys know if putting in an intake/exhaust voids any part of the warranty?

Oh, and I bought my Mini at Crevier Mini...

dbwilldo, I noticed in the other thread that you said you'd taken your Mini in there. It'd be cool if maybe we could meet up sometime and I could listen to your car. I'm so picky about how it sounds, because I don't want my car to end up sounding like a Honda rice rocket or something! Haha

Also, have you noticed any power increase since your install of the intake/exhaust?

Miles -- Yea, I bought from Crevier too. I asked my SA before doing any mods to see if the warranty would be affected or if they would cause any service issues and he told me only if the aftermarket part caused the problem would it effect warranty or service (like, if the filter came off the intake and I suck a bug into the injection system).

As far as sound goes, it sounds NOTHING like a ricer! nice rumble when cruising around and like a race car at WOT! Definitely have noticed a power increase. at the track a few weekends ago, there was a definite difference on the straights. I have also experience an increase in gas mileage, from a pre-mod norm of about 30-31 to a post-mod norm of 34-35.

I'll met you any time during the week. send me an email to db@dbmini.us and let me know.

Welcome! Mods like an intake and exhaust shouldn't be a problem. I have heard the borla and I think it sounds great. Basically all the exhausts out there for the mini wont give you that high pitched ricey sound. Borla, Magnaflow, Remus etc are all high quality systems...its usually the cheap universal exhaust from pep boys and such that give you that annoying high pitched squeal

also the combination of both an intake and exhaust will give you some good gains, try some light weight wheels and tires to help acceleration too!

Great! I appreciate it!

Wow do the stock wheels really weigh that much more?

Well, I think I've decided on the Piper Cross Viper intake. I like what I've read about it so far, and it's a little more expensive, but I think it's worth it.

The exhaust however, that will be a little more challenging choice. I like what I hear with the rSpeed and the Rogue Engineering though...
