Good experience with DAI motorsports
Good experience with DAI motorsports
I want to take this time and post about a shop located in Laguna Niguel which I highly recommend .
My warranty just ended on my Cooper S and I was givin a list of items by Irvine BMW for 3600.00 parts and labor for my control arms , ball joints , clutch and P.S hose and an oil change .
A few days after that I was at a gas station off of La Paz road in Laguna Niguel and I was approached by a member of SC Mini and he shared his experience about the club and its members .
I saw that he had some mods performed on his car and I asked him who he used for all his work and he told me about a father and son shop that has been located in South O.C for 16 years and that its actually being runned by the son , which he is pretty well known in Southern cali for restoring modifying servicing of Mercedes Benz , BMWs and Minis .
He is highly sponsered by a lot of good companys and his cars are spokes car models for companies like P&Gamble , BFG tires , Brembo etc .
So that night my wife and I checked BAR for their records , it seems that they have an outstanding record with BAR and BBB .
I called them and I spoke to the Owners son which is Jack Dayeh .
He was very polite and he set me up with an appointment the following day , so I took my car down there and I told him about my problems .
I never showed him my invoice from Irvine BMW , and I asked him how much they charge for an oil change ?
He told me 95.00 dollars plus tax and that includes factory oil , filter , safety inspection and resetting my oil serivce light and topping off all my fluids .
Fair enough .
He called me about 3 hours later and gave me an itemized list of issues with my car .
He catogorized everything from the severity of the problem to things that we can work on in the near future .
His list was short , a lot shorter than Irvines and he basically came up with 3 items that Irivne had givin me an estimate on , but it was almost 35% less than the price of Irvine .
My bushings on my lower control arms were bad , which Irivne gave me a price of 1100.00 to fix , and DAI price was 680.00 which included and alignment .
I needed pwr steering hoses , which again it was 30% less than Irvine BMWs.
My clutch was never bad , but Irvine told me it was and they wanted 1650.00 parts and labor .
Jack told me when the time comes its going to be 1380.00 which includes Removing and replacing the rear main seal as well , but Irvine never told me that they can do that too in order to save me money .
What was really funny, I was pissed at Irvine BMW and Jack actually was very supportive of them , he told me that Irvine BMW is one of the best BMW dealers in SoCal .
He told me that they are very honest and fair , he told me that he has had nothing but good experience with them .
I then told him that I also had a 745li thats still under warranty , and he named a few service writers at Irvine BMW that I should deal with the next time I need help . LOLLLLL
I have never heard an Independant shop telling anyone that a dealership is good or honest . GO FIGURE .
As I was waiting for my car to be brought over from the back of the shop I stood in the front office and I saw numerous magazines on placks with Jacks Mini cooper that was feautred in England , Japan , Germany and the Euro Tuner and I asked Jack if I can see his Mini since there was a lot of hype about this car .
He told me he had sold that car a few years back , and yet he had a few cars in his shop that he can show me including his show cars .
I walked back there and saw a some of the most nicest Vintage Benzez I have ever seen.
On one side of the shop which looked like it was his dads side since all the cars were vintage and the other die was mostly modded Benzez and BMWs
There was a Maroon 1956 sl Vert roadster so pretty , a 1952 vert Benz which happened to be owned by Jacks dad that was the car used in the movie The Majestic by Jim Carry .
I saw a 1955 MBZ huge body , this thing was insane .
It was completely restored by Jacks dad which happens to be the reason Jack has a passion for M.Bz since his dad has been working on them for over 50 years .
I saw a few older benzez that were being prepared for restoration inside as well as outside of the shop.
On the other side of the shop , I saw a crazy vert BMW widebody which according to Jack its the first converteble BMW Widebody in the world , and I know about Widebodies real well since I owned one myself .
I was very impressed by their work and their shop , very clean neat , messy in certain spots where they had some big projects going on like they were supercharging a 330ci and at the same time they were converting it from automatic to 6speed with complete custom rear end and big brakes , and a 500cls MBz with 22s on them and they were supercharging that as well .
Overall I was very impressed and as far as there honesty , I felt that there was no reason not to trust this shop since Jack and his dad had a very good rep and looking at there work I was impressed since they actually knew what they were talking about and they showed me everything my car needed .
Also this is something that has never ever happened to me .
When I was paying my bill , Jack had given me an estimate of 95.00 plus tax , and when I recieved my bill it was 88.76 cents .
I told Jack that he had made a mistake , he told me no he didnt since I was reffered by the gentlemen from SC mini that he forgot to give me his 10% discount that he usually gives to referalls by SC Mini .
I didnt even know about that and I wasnt even told that by my intial contact with the member of the Socal Mini club .
I do realize my post was a bit too long , but I always hear about negative remarks about peoples experience at shops that are basically true , and since I found a very good shop that actually was honest and took very good care of me , I felt that I should share this experience with this board incase anyone needed a good reputable shop in Orange County .
Here is there info if anyone is interested in using them in the future .
Jack Dayeh is the guy to talk to and please tell them you got their info from this board .
