MINI Meet in SoCal!
Great , first my car ran into issues ( which hopefully will be a easy fix and will be fixed mid next week) , and tonight someone rear ended my girlfriends Mini. =(
I hate little kids with r6 motorcycles. Grrrrh He was lucky a cop came to the scene so fast and made me controle my temper. =/

I can't believe we are having a series of bad lucks before this meet
My sister was driving my car yesterday and hit one of the million pot holes in LA and bent one of the rims. I'm out as well

LOL---- I read this entire thread and what a bunch of hot air! Geeez... I started out admiring the enthusiasm and then little by little nearly everyone checked out with their hard luck stories! You could almost predict it.
This is why I tend to avoid groups ....

And you've never had things interfere with plans? Lucky you!
Just found out about this little run tomorrow for Pres Day. Looks like a interesting lineup.

I'd be up for a run/meet for sure! I've only had one chance so far to enjoy the new tires/camber plates/sway bar so far.
Randy, is there an open invite to this impressive run for Pres. day? Details? Sounds like a pretty nice gathering...

It just appeared everyone systematically opted out as quickly as they opted in!
When you read 3-4 weeks of communication condensed within a few minutes, the entire thread was amusing!

I'm down the freeway from you where 105 meets 605.
Ever heard of SCMM?
Lots of activities and opportunities to hook up with other owners.
Oh, and did you know there's a SoCal Forums section here on NAM?

i'm not trying to be jerk but, when your club seems to pimp for members and then i get an elitist rejection email it comes of as total snobbery.
anyhow, i'm fairly new to the area and would be down for some action. especially something up in the hills.
i won't directly aim this at you as i'm almost positive it wasn't you but, since you blatantly state that "SCMM wants you!"- i TRIED to join SCMM via your site a couple months and my "application" was REJECTED via your club's "screening" process. i received an email a few days later stating "we are sorry but, your, membership inquiry has been rejected" or something to that affect. in all reality i was highly offended at first wondering what "qualification" i was "missing" to not be a "good enough" member. after awhile i just laughed about it.

. . . .
. . . .
I feel bad about it.
Despite your disclaimer, I do take it personal however because I've been a member since February of '03. SCMM's like a second familia to me. If my family makes a mistake, I do take it personal.

I am local to you and usually hit the hills every sunday ,weather excepted, such as today. I also am curious to why your application was rejected. I am a club member and have not heard of anyting other than age issues with regards to denying membership. In any event there are many things to do with our Minis locally. Get in touch if you like.

it's not that big of a deal. i just was offended at first. i guess i felt i would've been a "good" member
. i was shocked to get the rejection email.FWIW i've dreamt of owning my own Mini/MINI my entire life. i was born in oxford, england. i'm a militaty brat of sorts. my mother and her side of the family are/were oxofrd born and raised. every morning when i lived in england i would watch my grandmother and grandfather hop on their respective bicycles and ride off. my grandmother was going to work at Morris Garage on the assembly line where she actually worked on the Morris Mini assembly. My grandfather was going to work at the pressed steel company where, i guess we all know is now the oxford plant where our MINI's are built today. i take pride in the fact that i have a unique history when it comes to the Mini/MINI and also take some weird pride knowing that MY MINI was built on the same floor my grandfather stood on at one time. both of them worked at their respective company almost 50 years. from the 40's through the 80's.
that and the fact that my dad has and will always be a cooper fanatic and used to race the Mini classics, the mini has been a fixture of my life for as long as i remember. the latest issue of MC2 has a great write up on pressed steel FWIW, my dad found it very interesting. as did i.
i never had a chance to own a mini until now, after england we moved to texas and then japan and then back to texas. texas for 28 years of my life up until march of 2006 when i moved here to live with my soon to be wife. all in all i guess i am a texan and the mini was rare there- did have a midget at one time though. japan on the other hand had a great mini obsession that pleased my dad immensely as well as myself.
i just wanted to get with some people who shared that passion as i'm ecstatic to finally own one. too ecstatic maybe
. ask danny at minicorsa
. in a very short time i've almost maxed out the performance mods on the R50, almost to the point of poor Danny ripping his hair out over my OCD'ness of the car. hey i've waited a loooong time to own one.speaking of Danny i was at the shop yesterday and was chatting with a nice guy. he drove an "S" and was getting his steering fan and pump replaced. we had a nice conversation while he was waiting for his ride while he was dropping off the MINI. after he left i was checking his car out and noticed the SCMM sticker.
anhow, all is well and looking forward to metting some folks out there. if you see a LOUD indi blue/indo blue R50, crusing the noho, studio city area that would be me! new plates on the way anyday now, already been ordered a few weeks ago. plates read "RFIFTY". for now i have the standard cali issued plate though. so just look for the freak in the clean, loud indi blue
.PS- back to original purpose of the thread. sorry. i will stay tuned and hope to meet other MINI fanatics out there.

LOL! yeah he sure does. i told him he needed a trim a couple weeks ago and he looked at me funny and said "NEVER!"
.
he's a good guy though and funny, especially when you get to "know" him a bit better and learn his personality. does great work, is a genuine person and deserves all the good fortune he is bound to find. except for maybe tires and alignment- i refuse to take the MINI anywhere else.

i'm not trying to be jerk but, when your club seems to pimp for members and then i get an elitist rejection email it comes of as total snobbery.
anyhow, i'm fairly new to the area and would be down for some action. especially something up in the hills.

The only age criteria we have is that you have to be at least 18 years old to be a member otherwise you have to a parent/guardian sign up. A lot of clubs require this age requirement for liability reasons. The only other reason why an application would be rejected is because we have not received the one time $25 membership dues. You can either pay via Paypal which is quicker or mail a check to us. If after a certain period of time we haven't received any type of payment from you, we cancel your application and automatic email gets sent out.
Please send me your information to lex@scmm.org such as your email address you used, the date you applied or got the rejection email and the means you provided payment.
I also invite you to come to our 1st Saturday of Month breakfast at Coogie's in Malibu or 2nd Saturday of the Month breakfast in Long Beach. After you get to see what kind of people are in the club and what type of club we are, maybe your perception of us will change. SCMM has events almost every weekend, please feel free to come hang out and get to know us - we're a very laid back club that enjoys good camaraderie, food, and everything MINI. If you ask SCMM members like Juan, Randy, Danny or any other SCMM'er whether SCMM is elitist and snobby, I am sure they will tell you otherwise.
Again, I apologize for the miscommunication you received. I will look into the matter. I Look forward to hearing back from you or seeing you at one of our upcoming events.
Best regards!
Lex
