OK I know I am older that allot of you and I might be a little slow but when you say Channel: 7 sub 21 what does that mean?? Is 7 the channel on the walkie things?? What is the "SUB"and 21 mean. My walkie things only go to 14. Are mine old like me??

the motorola radios have two frequency settings with 7 being the major and 21 being the minor. the major frequency determines the frequency (and consequently the wavelength!) of the radio transmission. the 21 represents a code used to differentiate your transmission from someone elses. it's a similar approach to cell phones that use CDMA (code division multiple access) to allow many phones to use the same frequencies at the same time.

Actually the radios use channel 7
the sub is a sub-audible tone called PL. Stands for Private Line in the old Motorola days.
Several people share the same frequency (7), but their squelch will only open if the sub tone is heard by the squelch decoder. Sometimes two people using the same frequency and different tones, can and will interfer with each other, degrading the communication distance, if they talk at the same time.

Like I said I had no clue then and still have no clue. Do you speak in a language that a 42 yr old guy with limited electronics skills can understand??

it's just like the channels on your tv, well...kind of. different channels have different things on them, so the numbers on the talkabout act as different channels, so nobody has to listen to other peoples conversations.
Okay, for those of you unfamiliar with the area we are meeting at... according to one of the maps, its exit 55 that we'll be meeting off of. Just look for the signs for Hwy 27, as I'm not sure if 55 is the old or new number. When you exit Interstate 4...the ramp divides...stay to the left. This will put you on Hwy. 27 NORTHBOUND!! The McDonalds is about 1/4 to 1/2 mile north of the Interstate, on the left hand side. Hope this helps!!
Okay...I've got the following names down for meeting at the McDonalds...anyone else?? (? <-- denotes questionable)
JoeS
The Zero-Mullet Combo
Synch ?
Gleep
Mr. Rock ?
ME!!

Sue...no biggie. We probably won't actually leave until right at 9 anyways...
After much discussion with my chauffeur, and the GleepMeister...we have decided upon the following route. We will get on Interstate 4...heading west. We will hopefully survive "Malfunction Junction" (where Interstate 4 intersects with 275,) going on 275 Southbound. We'll stay on 275 thru Tampa...then we will exit onto Memorial Hwy (Hwy 60) towards the airport...then, we'll hit the Courtney Campbell Causeway (still Hwy 60.) This is the bridge at the bottom of the pic below. (BTW, Thanks for posting the great map, Vince!!
) Then we'll stay on 60 til we hit hwy 19. We'll go north on Hwy. 19 thru one gajillion stoplights, do a u-ey...then be at our destination!! Any questions...we'll discuss it in the AM. See ya'll bright and early...
