I wonder if the site might not benefit from having Cooper and Cooper S specific forums in addition to MINI Talk.

This suggestion is not meant to divide the community, its just that MINI Talk tends to be dominated by things like the "I Can't Wait Club" and "The License Plate Registry". While these are fun threads, especially if your long awaited car is on the way, it does create a lot of clutter for those seeking to create a community of interest in their model of car. Plus MINI Talk has so many posts it just gets sprawling, and potentialy interesting threads can quickly get swallowed.

I would still go to Mini Talk is it was a general interest forum, but I would love to see Cooper and Cooper S forums as well. Thanks for listening, Great Site!

MINI Talk was intended to be open discussion about everything MINI...not necessarily specific to a model. I thought of it as the on-topic version of off-topic. Given this I don't know how successful splitting out model specific forums would be.

Everyone - provide feedback on this and if there is support I'm more than happy to make it happen.

Thanks for the feedback!

Mark

Let's see....There is the Cooper, the Cooper S, the uh.,.umm, what's the others...hmmm...

It's kind of silly to have model forums when there are two models!!!

I can see when there is a Cooper, a Cooper S, a convertible, a sedan and a pickup. Then I think it would make sense.

A few people here are already divided and like only the S or only the base Cooper. I wouldn't want to see our community more divided.

Just my 2 cents....

I agree with Greatgro. No need to divide the forces. I own a Cooper, but love reading about the S.

Hey Mark, I may be in the minority here (clearly so far) but the I think the strength and weakness of the Mini Talk forum is that it IS "the on-topic version of off-topic". It is a fun forum, but I still think there is a hole in the site for people who have owned their cars for awhile and want to build up a online community that is more focused on the car and the long range joys (and even pains) of ownership without posts having to be be so narrow or specific that it is necessary to post in "beneath the bonnet" or "performance modifications" type forums.

I think the additional forums would make MCO stronger not more divided. Not having an alternative to the "on-topic version of off-topic" could, I'm afraid, cause interest in the site to drop off as people get past the newness of owning their MINIs. I think having model specific forums would build the MCO community by providing more room for "on-topic" discussions about the cars. That would allow the MINI Talk section to continue being the more social side of the site while also providing a forum for people to discuss cars.

While it is true there are only two models currently available, they each have their issues. If we had a Cooper forum, for example, discussions of CVT or Not CVT, or Do I get SSP+? could be thrashed out wiht out getting buried by "Let's Meet In Big Bear" type threads. Like I said there is a place for both type of threads, or at least there ought to be.

All the best

This thread is 2 years old and might, now, deserve ressurrection. The MINI family has grown as we now have the Cooper, the Cooper S, the CVT, and the Cabrio that all have their model specific quirks, problems, and fixes. It might be time to rethink the idea of dividing down to have more model specific forums (as well as a general MINI talk).

I prefer keeping MINI Talk as it is, wide-open, and not balkanizing it. I love all the models! Just my .02.

It's nice and tidy all in one forum, but it sure makes it a real pain when you're trying to run down a specific item. I see the problem grew to the point that there's 2 separate forums for performance mods, so why not the car models? If you want to know the ins and outs of driving your CVT or dealing with the top on a cabrio why should you have to search through posts not pertaining to the subject at hand? MINI2 has successfully done the forum split. Not saying this site should mirror them, but it's a good idea.

I vote to keep it as is, general Mini Talk in one forum. I actually find the division of forums on Mini2 offputting and annoying - so much information is applicable accross the model lines that splitting it up obscures things and, as I see it there, increases the redundancy of questions/info.
