Build Competition

Is there an interest in having a MINI Build Competition? Could be by generation with those winners competing for the overall champion.

What would the rules be?

Sounds fun, who would judge it and any kind of prize?

Now that I've read the announcements, how do I get them all from appearing every-time I look at the New Posts as they take up half a page or more?

First time using the "announcement" function. Do they continue to show up every time you visit? Can you do a screen shot and post it?

Might have to go back to posting a thread in each subforum.

Will the Quick Link "Mark Forums Read" do anything?

OK so one announcement it will be, it will take a day for the majority to get timed out.

Maybe you can get some of the vendors to buy in and offer discounts on parts for this contest. That would probably be a win / win for all.

I like this idea. It could be judged across different categories like engine, suspension/brakes, exterior/cosmetic, interior/cosmetic, overall performance, overall "cool", because race car, etc.

How do we determine the winners? Who gets to be the judges?

This sounds like a cool idea, since I am in the process of getting my build together it would be perfectly timed, and this would be a cool community building exercise to get more people including myself more involved in on this site/community.

Scoring should/could be based across multiple categories, and maybe multiple disciplines like racing focus, form focus, and then even maybe model years.

How would submission be done, would you create a tread that documented you progress? or the final product, What would be the minimum requirement to be considered a valid submission?

Would this only be for already completed projects? or would there be a set time in the future to complete this project? What would be a good time frame? 3,6,12 months?

The idea is great, and would really like to see this come to reality, looking forward to more peoples suggestions!

This sounds like it could be a lot of fun! I personally think we should judge all the generations together, for topics like quality, racing discipline configuration, interior/exterior/suspension/engine/etc. There can of course be "best of [insert] generation" competitions as well, but I personally think it would be really interesting to compare workmanship across the generations.

Have not forgotten this thread. Working on getting a Moderator to handle getting this going and already have a volunteer (glad he does not know what he has gotten himself into).

Stay tuned but ideas are always good.

We could automate everything with Google Forms!!

Create a category for each "best of," with links to each build thread in the text of the selection boxes. Then once the form is complete and it's time, send it out as a mass mail, with just a link to the form. People will see a list of "best of" categories to vote on, with all the nominees underneath. After the responses are in, Google will aggregate all the responses, make pretty graphs, and everything, for free. I can help with creating this form, if needed.

How about we get NAM / IB to sponsor a real life event based on this idea also?

We used to do a east coast shootout / west coast shootout thing with the Subaru community and I think that would be a lot of fun and a chance to actually get out and meet fellow Mini people.

a little cone killing, maybe a little drag racing, toss in a show and shine together for the peeps that like that side of it too?
