PULSE enhancement request (goto=newpost)

Enhance the PULSE so it links to the newest posting, rather than to the first post of the first page.

Currently it links to:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=31371

However, with the addition of an addition QS parameter, you can get to the newest posting (technique found in new post notification email).

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...1&goto=newpost

What do you think?

Just FWIW, I view the site in Thread Display Mode / Linear Newest First. It places the newest post at the top of the page. It takes a little getting use to, but I actually like it a lot now.

Using Linear - Newest First, the pulse takes you to the top of the first page, which in this case is the newest post, so it works out great with the pulse.

To change viewing style go to UserCP / Edit Options and then scroll down to thread display mode and select linear - newest first.

Note: I'm not saying the other change you're proposing wouldn't be helpful, just that I figured out a way using the current system to jump to the newest post with the pulse, and I actually wouldn't change back to the traditional viewing method now that I've been using this.

Getting the pulse to jump to the newest post with the traditional listing would be nice though.

 Dom, I use "Quick Links," and choose "New Posts" and then click on the arrow to the last post! Works great!

Just checked and regardless of personal settings of sort order (newest or oldest) of postings in thread display mode, the goto=newpost will always paginate you to the correct place.

I've implemented the goto=newpost in both the Pulse and in the Latest Topics block. Let me know if these changes are useful

FINALLY! Awesome, Mark! Thank you. This has been something I've waited for since the migration.

Ok. When I click on a thread I have never been It is taking me to the last few posts. For example I clicked on the "2005 Windshield Cracks, Raise your hands!"thread (I haven't been there before) and it took me to post #81 on page four. No biggie I will get used to it, but I thought I would bring it up.

The update was intended to take you to the most recent post. Currently the Pulse does not incorporate any type of information relative to what you have marked as read. Its merely intended to keep a list of the most recently replied to topics and then take you to the most recent post.

Hope this helps explain what may seem as strange behavior now. Many users of the site have been asking that it jump to the most recent post for some time. Another alternative is that I could offer four different options of the Pulse...two that take you to the most recent post and two that take you to the first post in a thread. Let me know if this would be helpful.

MINI-IZED, although I undertstand your point, the reason a thread shows up on Pulse is because a new posting was made to it. Pulse was designed to show recent activity, and in theory should take you to the most recent activity on that thread. If you want to start viewing a thread from it's start, navigate into a forum group you like, then you have the option to click the link which brings you to the first post in that thread. IIRC, pulse was designed to show threads with current activity.

BTW, Mark, thank you for fixing Pulse! It works like the old one (prior to software upgrade) did, but only better because it scrolls down to the newest post, unlike just being brought to the top of the last page of the thread.

Many thanks, Mark! I noticed this a few weeks ago and was very pleasantly surprised. Big improvement!
