a pictures forum? not like im bad talking the board im just curious because all the other forums i belong do have a picture forum where people go to post pictures of their cars and different items they put on. i mean i sure would love it have a forum like that. is the "MINI Camera and Video" for pictures and videos or is it to discuss how to take pictures and videos?

 

You're right, the "camera and video" forum is a new forum focused on how to photograph / video our MINIs (and it's off to a great start, IMO). The old NAM site had a "Galleries" section. I haven't seen it on the new NAM, but then again I haven't looked for it. My wish for the photo galleries is a feature that allows (or better yet, FORCES) the person who is submitting a pic to identify the key characteristics of their MINI (Cooper vs "S", body color, roof color, type/size of wheels, stripes, interior material/color, etc). Then, in my dream world, the rest of us couold search for a photo of the MINI we are interested in by identifying certain characteristics. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to see a pic of a certain combination of characteristics, but had to resort to thumbing through 700 pages of gallery pics, or just as bad, posting a "Who's got pics of a CR/W with S-Lites, stripes, and Cordoba Beige?" thread, for example.

 

yeah i hear ya on that one. but another thing is sometime i just cant read anymore. i sit here and read all the posts and look around quite a bit and would like some pictures every now and then. and with the photo forum thats all that would be there. i personally would like to know what aftermarket performance parts look like and such like that. i think it would be really something the mods should look into doing, it would be a great addition to the site...

 

Hopefully a moderator will pick up on this thread and provide a full answer...but basically, there used to be a photo gallery, but it went away with the site software upgrade in June and will be back soon. PM Mark, he'll give you the info.

The NAM gallery is currently being updated by Mark. You can download images from the old gallery but I don't believe you can upload to it. The new gallery will have a personal space that you can accessible from the usercp. When the new gallery is up and running, there will be a transition period to retrieve any old images so NAM members can put them in their personal gallery. After the transition, the old NAM gallery be removed from the site. Below is a link to the old NAM gallery. :smile:

Mark is working on updating the galleries so that everyone has a gallery space they can manage. In the meantime you can upload pics with the attachment feature.

As for MINI Camera and Video, my take on the forum is we're looking to encourage technique to help people take better pictures/videos to share on the rest of the site.

I gather you're looking for more of a comprehensive pictoral of MINI parts? How is this more than what say Webb Motorsports has (mods categorized with picture)? Or what other aftermarket vendors show? I'm just trying to flesh out a bit what you're after here, and trying to see how it is different than what's already available.

 

I think I should add my 2 cents since I'm a Moderator of this new forum.

Currently, I've been using the new forum to post videos shot by my VacuCam so people have an easy way to find the sample clips--and to announce the latest news. I've been involved in the Video Production business for a lot of years---coming on 18 years now, and I've been involved in a lot of technologies. I've owned some of the coolest gadgets that cost more than a fully loaded MCS as well! But what I love the most are the simple things that allow us to do cool stuff!

So I would love to see more exploration in these areas. I know there is a great deal of interest in the video systems I've got. At a local meet today, there were just as many people coming up to talk to me about the cams as if they were seeing a souped up MINI with all the latest mods!

I think the forum should be a sort of Show and Tell/ Discussion forum where people can post sample pix or videos and look for critique, or just plain show off their latest creations!

That's my 2 cents!

thanks a lot for the feedback i really appreciate it! you guys are kind of touching on what im thinking but not entirely. im talking about a forum in NAM for people to post pictures of their cars rather than them just being in a big data base of pictures. for example some of the titles in this forum may read:

"just installed my new blah blah blah exhuast pic inside"
"just washed my car and snapped some pictures, here they are..."
"just painted my wheel arches. have a loook..."
"installed new h&r coilovers. lots of pics"

just like that. where people can show everyone their cars up to this point and what they are doing to them, or they can host a picture and the title reads: "what front lip is this?" and people can respond back. i mean for example you can go to say mr2ownersclub.com and they have a show and shine forum, honda-tech.com has an apperance/cosmetic forum, houston-imports.com has a car pictures forum, etc. all strictly for hosting pictures of your car.

sorry for taking up a lot of your times and going on and on about this but i just think it would be cool to have a forum like that. i dont mean to bad talk the board or anything for not have one because i sure do LOVE this board

My concern is that we'd have one new forum with a lot of random pictures/discussion. Each of those posts could have fit into an existing forum with the current forum structure, but now, it confuses matters by adding one more place to look for information.

Again, maybe I'm just not getting it, and I'm not trying to kill the idea, but I'm still not totally clear on why we'd need a new forum for this type of posting.

 

now it really wouldnt make it another place for you to find information. the way it would be is if you want to see pictures of go to the pictures forum. now if you want to ask a question or post a comment about say suspension then do that in the suspension forum. i just think that the technical forums should have discussions and the picture forum should have pictures. i have just gotten used to having a picture forum with all the other online message boards and was wondering why NAM chose not to have one. i understand that my reasoning is probably a lost cause because things work very well right now but i was just curious. i find myself looking through the picture forums just as much as i look through the technical forums and thought it would be nice to have something like that here on NAM.
