Sorry about being computer illiterate... I used to be able see all of the great photos of Minis, how-to photos, and signature photos that lots of people have... but suddenly almost all of them are now little white boxes with a red X in the middle, no picture at all. Can anybody tell me what has happened? I know it must be something in my pc's settings but I haven't a clue where to start. It seems that jpg's are the biggest problem but some of them do actually show up. Weird.

Well so far I've only had it happen here on NAM but who knows if it is happening elsewhere, I just haven't been able to duplicate it yet. I do get graphics, photos, etc on various websites I go to and I do get all of NAM sponsors photos and graphics etc on here. Let me find an example of what I'm not getting and see if that helps you help me. Hold on...

Okay found one...let's say you go to:

Well on page one I can see the first photo by L.Mini, nothing on the second one by X2Board (a red X where I imagine a photo is and a red X in the sig line), a red X in the one by elle, then I can see pezboy's photos, then everything is okay again until L.Mini posts a photo (which appears as a red X) and says "Mully's not the only one who gets grabbed around here!", and then Davbret's is a red X on the 2nd page. It goes like that on most threads that I've been on, I'm just using that thread as an example.

I get those red x's too. It means the pics are no longer hosted. (at least in that example).

Okay thanks Dave. Tell you what, I am going downstairs to blend a shedload of margueritas. Not too early tomorrow (!!) I'll try and find some other photos that don't work and I'll run them by you. Maybe it is just down to non-hosted photos and here I thought it was my pc. Thanks again.

Just a couple of thoughts:
Maybe it's time to clear out your cache? This probably has nothing to do with it, but who knows.
and
Are you using a dial-up with an accelerator? This sometimes prevents graphics from showing if it's at the highest speed.
It's a pity that you can't see the beautiful MiniClo in her sig pic.

 

Lizzy: Wow, thanks for the response! I had forgotten that I had asked for help as I was slightly tipsy at the time of my last post on this topic. Hang on, I'm always tipsy when I get on NAM!!
Nope, it's not my cache as I take care of that daily. I think it's what Dave had previously said, that the photos I was attempting to view are not hosted or something similar. Strange though, as some of the more recent ones (okay Nov 03) are also not viewable. What happens to these hosts?
As for MiniClo's sig...yep I can see all 4 pics. Nice. The car's not bad either.

I would bet that what you are seeing is the result of people managing limited online hosting space. They put up pictures for the thread, then needed to upload something new a couple months later and decided to delete the image that now has the red X.

Dave!! That's it, the dreaded red X in a box!!! I hate that thing. So that's the answer is it? Okay, thank you. And here I thought it was me and my virus infected pc after visiting all of those erm..."other" websites.

No need to go to confession afterall.

Yeah, all that red X means is that the picture is no longer available.

I just uploaded new ones, and still get the "x". I notice others are uploading their pix to other "websites", not NAM gallery.

What did I miss?

Bumping forward 4 years in time. . . see folks, I know how to use the search function!

Please help me.

Here's what I've done so far. Tonight I found a picture. Uploaded it to my Flickr acct. Came to NAM and in my post, hit the 'insert picture' icon in yellow. Clicked at top of screen to allow cookies or whatever, and inserted my Flickr URL, taking care to delete the repeated http://

All I get is a red X with a box around it. Grrr.

I have NEVER been able to successfully post a picture from anywhere other than in my own signature.

What am I doing wrong?????
