I know you have been slaving over the new site for a long time and have made posts on the subject but do you think the new site will be NAM members Christmas present? Yes I'm trying to be patient and no you don't have to tell me what I might get for Christmas.
Charles

Wishing all Members and Guests a wonderful Christmas.

Charles,
I'm happy to tell everyone the saga that has been the effort to get to the new site....

I hired a designer in July to come up with a design that could be used with the new software platform. After much knashing of teeth (and threat of non-payment) I got the designer to complete the work in November. During this time we got the legal issues resolved and I got all the products in the store under development.

In moving to the new site there are many things to do...

- migration of all the forums and forum content
- documentation of the impacts to the membership (things that will change in the way you typically interact with the site)
- migration of all the "custom" things I've developed such as the Dealer Rating System and other areas
- development of some new functionality like a club registry, feature articles, product review system, event calendar, personal image galleries, etc.

Now that the store is up and operational I'll be putting my efforts toward several goals over the coming weeks...
- developing and releasing several new site guidelines for vendors and moderators to develop a higher level of consistency in how the site is managed and used
- migration testing, tweaking, and development of the functions needed to support the new site
- digging myself out from under the crush of recent orders

Happy holidays and best regards,

Mark

Charles,
Thanks for asking me about this. I've been doing some additional work but, unfortunately, a couple of things have come up that have been taking up a fair amount of time. I've been trying to get some event support in place for A MINI Vacation in Vegas and another event later in the year as well as just getting back from a trip to MINI HQ in New Jersey. I'll post some information about that trip this coming week when I get my notes together. I'll also be working on the new site more this week and should have an update in the next couple of weeks. Thanks for bearing with me while I juggle

Mark

I made some good progress last week but have found that I'm having to write a lot of custom code to enable the migration from one database structure to another. Its not overly difficult just very time consuming. I hope to have a better handle on where I am in the migration process next week. Unfortunately I have to work through every step, document it, then script it so that I will be able to reproduce it all at once...on the live data. I expect that I will have to take the site down for several hours one weekend, do the migration, then bring it back up with its new look (and functionality).

Mark

We're shooting for this weekend. A lot needs to happen between now and then, but that's our plan. We'll post more (front page, pulse, site feedback) when we're sure it's going to go down.

Thanks for the quick response. Don't want to be a pain but would like to see the new site. Hope everything is going well with the changeover. If you need someone to help in the trouble-shooting let me know, would be there for everyone.
Thanks
Charles
