Mini for President!

Did you ever notice that people on the left of you, politically, are all communists, and people on the right of you are all fascists?

It goes the same for drivers. People who drive faster than you are all maniacs, and people who driver slower than you are all idiots.

If only Mini Coopers could vote, they'd vote for Minnie Driver for political office.

Cheers,
Dan

Dan,

That's one of the single best posts I've ever read on MCO/NAM. Keep it up!

I'm jumping in here kindof late but....

I view people sigs as an expression of themselves. If your gay, as long as you don't show 2 people getting it on then I'm fine with you putting some sort of gay slogan or whatever in your sig. If your a Jesus nut, then put WWJD in your sig I don't care, it just goes to help me understand you a little better. If your a **** lover, put a swastica (sp?) in your sig, that's fine. If your from Vermont and love Howard Dean, put an ad for him in your sig.

I don't agree with any of the above affiliations, does that mean I don't think they should be there? Heck no... I like sigs, sometimes they make me laugh, other times I say to myself "wow, that looks cool"... other times it helps me see what mods the person has done so I can reply better when they leave that stuff out (over in the performance section mostly)

I don't think sigs disrupt conversation unless you let it. If you see a sig you find offensive because the person is advocating Bush and then you post something to a MINI related forum you are the @$$#@!# who wrecked the forum. Take it into OT or PM the person.

The only thing I would really find offensive would be curse words or nudity in a sig. This is a family oriented site and those things are not. Advocating your particular party affiliation is fine.

Well I've always considered political speech protected speech, and the Supreme Court generally agrees. That said, there are certainly restrictions that could be placed upon how one expresses their Constitutional Right. However, banning Nixon's the One or McGovern for President sigs doesn't seem to me to be very effective, as they are most probably done in jest anyway. As I recall neither Nixon nor McGovern have been very active politically as of late (cruel joke in bad taste I'll admit). Bush and Cheney? Howard Dean? Hillary Clinton? to me seeing any of these currently active politicians (an oxymoron if one ever existed) on someone's sig doesn't necessarily mean that I would consider them as anything other than comedians. I can see others being offended as this sort of political mongoring is seemingly a wee bit out of place on a car forum. But hey, we are all adults here, and if I don't want to see somebody's political sig, I don't have to read it. I say let the signatures stay as they are, and if someone really and truly must post a political sig, well I'll just avert my eyes when I scroll down through the messages.

I think that the author of this thread was actually asking NAM members to self-moderate and try to leave politics out of all the Forums, except for Off Topic, of course. I guess my concern is more about the fact that the sigline in question actually has a link to a political site. I'm all for self-expression and toot anybody's horn you want to, (TEE HEE!!!

I agree, Clo. I have no problem with someone identifying themselves as an active member of the hugely popular "Morons for Bush Club" just as long as they don't have something like this in their sig line: http://www.moronsforbush.com

Let the sigs be, I guess.

I don't like politics getting in the way of a fine MINI conversation, - but I'll not vote to limit the sigs.

ds, no one's vilifying the sig itself. Any backward-thinking jackass who doesn't know his head from the excrement of a yard dog can put something like that in their sig. However, the person in question DOES, in fact, link it to another site.

That sig does NOT link to a political site, unless one of the MMZ team is running for President.

Stovepipejones,

Oh, now I see what you are talking about!!! I went to that person's post and clicked the sig. Thank you for clarifying. I clicked on the sig, and it takes me to a Mighty Miniz Team site, its some kind of another mini forum. Well if we have a problem with that, then isn't this thread kinda self defeating? Because it does NOT take us to a political site. If i remember correctly, his sig always took one to a different site. I wonder why suddenly there is a chaos.

So are we mad that he has the GW sig, or are we mad that the link takes us to a new mini forum? I just want to make sure, why I am mad, before I get mad.

I was just thinking back to the good ole days of Jim Mcmahon and I think I'd like to sell my sig space to the highest bidder.

Please see my ad in the marketplace.

I'm now accepting offers via PM. Thank you.

I did not click on the sigline. I assumed that rfibanez was being honest about this connection to Bush/Cheney. I am as surprised by this as you are, dsmcs2000. I don't know what exactly you mean by saying we're accusing him of things he didn't do.

Oh ok, I apologize then! I thought you clicked on the sig, and then said he has a link to a political site. But as me, yucca, dandp realized, he just has a link to a team MMZ site (I dont know if that is legal or not, according to Mark). I agree with Yucca, he is just looking for publicity. I thought you knew that the link went to MMZ and still said that he had a link to a political party.

Ok glad we are all on the same page now. My apologies.

I think that outlawing political sigs would actually detract from the site.

We all love our MINIs, of course, but we're also more than that. I think a rule about only MINI-related sigs would be pushing the envelope too far in the direction of weird constructionist utopia. We talk about controversial issues all the time, why not have some in sigs?

Besides which, non-MINI sigs will always be a minority, as we are a rather obsessive bunch.
