Why "for sale" archive?

Someone explain to me something. Why is the "For Sale" section a huge section but everything is archived but yet the current "for sale" section is one tiny link?

Why not just delete the archive section? If it's archived, it's old, why keep it?

Just wondering?

Marketplace (archive)
Archived - past MINIs for sale, group buys, special offers and more...this is the place to buy or sell anything MINI-related. Please use the new Marketplace by clicking HERE.

ITA. Not only do I really dislike the current format of the Marketplace, the way it's laid out in the forum index makes it hard to even find.

Relic of the way things were once done. The new marketplace is more user friendly once you're into it, and much easier to moderate (the software self moderates many of the issues). The archive provides relative record of previous sales and when someone new to the forum posts a thread instead of using the market place it gives that thread a place to go besides the delete box without cluttering the technical forums, then when the user checks back to see if they've got interest yet they'll see a post at the end of the thread with a link to the marketplace.

The "new" marketplace was put in before I became a mod and it was decided that on the left display bar would make it easier for people to find and check on the marketplace regularly.

Looking at the marketplace sales counter I have to say it can't be too tiny for how much $$$ has changed hands.

Looking at *where* it is in the forum display I do think it can be better suited being dropped in with the archived content and easily collapsible with use of the icon

probably for the same reason the ad for the "free classic mini" is still up after over 5K posts. lack of proper site maintenance I suspect.

Or that that wasn't a sale and has long been a discussion thread.

it started life as a for sale "free car", then evolved into a discussion because it wasnt terminated after the vehicle was given away, actually. i don't remember for sure but somewhere in the first 2-3 pages the car was labeled as "it's gone". and it just kept rolling from there.
