When were the site sponser added? Car direct? Come on NAM, it looks bad, like the forums with like 9 sponsers on the top,

The sponsors block on the NAM home page have been there since 2003 and there have always been multiple advertisers showing in that area. The carsdirect ad is something new introduced by the site owner, Internet Brands since that is one of their properties.

I dont know if I like the generic type of ads I have a feeling will be coming. But change is always coming.

The Carsdirect ad is just the same as the Tire Rack ad. When you click on it you are doing a search for MINIs (Tire Rack is for MINI fitments). The Tire Rack ad is also generic in this way but we've had it on the site since 2004. All that said I don't foresee a lot of additional adds being stacked on the home page since once they get below the fold and require scrolling they aren't very useful.
