Don't get me wrong...I love this site, but for the past few weeks it seems like the site is responding slower than it used to. I access it from home and work and have noticed the slowness while other sites have remained the same.

Has anyone else noticed this? I, personally, haven't noticed any slowdown and I'm on it around the clock

Mark, I've noticed it being a bit slow at points over the past couple of weeks. It seems fine at the moment (and I'm on a dialup vs. my usual DSL or cable), but I've found that screen refreshes have been running slow in the late afternoons.

I'd wondered if it had anything to do with the "forum grudge match" thread (no, seriously, that seemed to inspire a lot of competitive and frantic typing)... Probably just my imagination.

once it starts to load everything is fine. What I have noticed is that there is a longer lag in getting the thread to start loading (sometimes 5-10 seconds).

I notice the slowness between the time you click a topic and the time to load the actual page being slower lately. I thought it was just the fact that the site was busier. The search seems slower too, but of course there is more to search everyday.

I've been noticing it for a while (maybe 3 or 4 weeks). I wonder if the db needs to be reindexed or new indexes added to the db structure to handle the new higher load (number of members, number of topics, number of posts, etc).

I have been wondering about the same thing.
I just thought my connctions were slow.
I'm on a T1 right now, and it took 6 seconds for this screeen to pull up after I clicked reply.
The users keep growing everyday. Could you imagine how many topics, and entriesm and PMs are out there right now
? O, and the images in the gallery.

I've really noticed this time lag over the last few days, both at work (T1, IE) and at home (DSL, Netscape). Sometimes it's so significant that IE gives up and says the page is unavailable, and I have to refresh the browser. That has happened with the pulse a few times as well, which necessitates closing and relaunching it.

Has the site just been really busy lately?

I am unable to get DSL or cable internet access in my present location at this time however cable internet service is on the way, so for now I use a dial-up modem service at between 24 Kbs to 28.8 Kbs, so you folks with cable, T1 and DSL don’t know what slow is. As to MSO acting slowly, I wouldn’t know. Dial-up sucks!

It's exactly what is happeniong to me also. Today is worst, the graphics took a long time to fully display, and the site was not available for a few times. Someone need to look into this.

On Adelphia (cable modem), it does seem to be lagging a little more than usual also... I still get the add that doesn't want to load, so I just stop loading the page and it suddenly appears, but I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the proliferation of giant sig pictures lately...

Rocketboy_X
Sig picture? I don't need no stinking sig picture!

I have Charter Cable & have noticed it for the last week or so. Sometimes I just give up & go elsewhere, that's when I realize it's not my cable hook-up but the MCO site.

Its a nasty upgrade since the site is using a embedded version of phpBB (version 1.4.1). Given this I've had to write a lot of custom migration code to get the data migrated. I'm currently working on resolving a bug that is mangling post formatting. Given this and the need to "re-integrate" many of the MCO features I hope to have it in place in the next 6-8 weeks. Thanks for your patience. I'm looking forward to what vBulletin will offer as well.

Mark

Ok, it really is due to all the pics lately... i've had pages take over 10 minutes to load, so I stopped loading them, and boom, here's the thread with a few broken images...

(and no, i'm not sitting for 10 minutes, i'm reading other threads.. it's the joy of Opera (or Mozilla, now that they believe that they invented 'tabbed' browsing..))

Can you give me a couple of examples of threads where you are seeing this behavior? I'd like to examine them more closely to see what size the images are consuming, the signature images, etc. as all of those will effect page load times.

Thanks!

Mark

EXACTLY. There is a very long lag for some reason. With IE I usually get a bar at the bottom and it slowly fills as it's trying to find the next page. It can take 10 or MORE seconds before it finds the page. Then it's very quick. I have cable modem also. This has only been going on the past few weeks - MAYBE a month or two. Not sure. But when I click on a link or page, sometimes I go do something else or go to another site with another window b/c it can take a while.

I wonder if it has something to do with images linked external to MCO. If there are bad links, or slow links, wouldn't MCO take a while to load the page that references those links? Could be a bottleneck at the MCO server.

OK, that's the extent of my network knowledge (or lack thereof). I'll shut up now.

Yes I have seen a slow down but I thought it was just me. Or maybe just heavy traffic. Someone nearby said he switched from cable to DSL and it is much much better.

I want to know is there anyway to post just the thumb of a picture not the whole thing.
I can insert .thumb. but unless it is a pic from the MCO site it doesn't work.

I will do my best to keep my text down and also no or little pictures from now on. I went around and deleted a bunch today. Hope that will help a little.
