Does MCO seem slow lately?
>>Can you give me a couple of examples of threads where you are seeing this behavior? I'd like to examine them more closely to see what size the images are consuming, the signature images, etc. as all of those will effect page load times.

No prob.. next time I have to bypass the images, i'll let you know....

I don't think pictures are the entire problem. For instance, if I click on the most recent topic in the "5 recent Topics" area it will lag from the time I click until the thread is displayed even if there are no pictures and only one message in the thread. It's probably worse in a thread with pictures, but not much.
Also, when posting the message above, it took over a minute from the time I clicked the Submit button until it was posted. While I'm waiting for it I'm surfing all over Yahoo with no problems.
Everyone,
I'm looking into this to see if I can see what the problem may be. There does not appear any above average load on the server so this may take some time to investigate. When running over my DSL link I can't say that I've seen really any change over the last few weeks but I am looking into possible causes. Thanks!

>>Its a nasty upgrade since the site is using a embedded version of phpBB (version 1.4.1). Given this I've had to write a lot of custom migration code to get the data migrated. I'm currently working on resolving a bug that is mangling post formatting. Given this and the need to "re-integrate" many of the MCO features I hope to have it in place in the next 6-8 weeks. Thanks for your patience. I'm looking forward to what vBulletin will offer as well.

Everything about the site is slow for me. Slow to access, slow to load every frame, slow to post and slow to read.
Makes me wonder if I have lost connection it is so slow. Definitely the worst and slowest site I visit each day.
There are times when the speed isn't nearly as bad. Other sites right now are all OK. We need an intercooler and supercharger for the site.

>>Yes I have seen a slow down but I thought it was just me. Or maybe just heavy traffic. Someone nearby said he switched from cable to DSL and it is much much better.
>>
>>
Hey! That's me
I noticed the slowdown too. I thought it was just my cable getting bottlenecked so I switched to DSL. Some improvement but nothing stellar.
Someone mentioned it might be an MCO problem but have nothing to reference to because that's the only sight I visit. HHMMM, maybe I should check out other sites on the world wide web...is there more to life than a MINI?

Can you tell me about what time (and timezone) you experienced this last night? I was on intermittently yesterday (Sunday) and didn't run into this problem. Thanks for everyone's help in trying to assemble enough time/problem data to assist me in tracking this down!

It really was most of the night (sorry, I don't have the times... :???: ) but really, it started speeding back up when I was reading the posts right before I posted the message above, so it was still slow untill around 3:30 EST.

Mark, something's VERY wrong today. I saw the same downtime that Chris pointed out above (but you must have seen that too...the whole site was dead).
Now, it's back up, but speeds are very inconsistent. Mostly it's slow, slow, slow. My browser keeps saying "Sending Request to Minicooperonline.com" and it just hangs...
I don't think it matters, but I'm using Netscape 7.02 on Mac OSX via DSL.

the Pulse just timed out on me. Here's the message it displayed
--Unable to connect to database server: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (111)
--Unable to connect to database server: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (111)

I've had that one, too!
And I too was unable to access my MCO email and or MCO intermitantly the past few days. That was the first shut out. But many times I've been totally unable to load MCO without refreshing several times, or just trying again later. And for the most part it's been terminally slow to load anything, even PMs!
Happens randomly all day long for what it's worth.

Everyone,
Thanks for the info. I've been seeing the site consuming more system resources than normal today...likely due to the changes that were required to get the gallery back up. Given that I may have to take the following actions:
- further database and web server tuning
- take the gallery offline (just the front-end), the pictures will still be there and can be referenced via full URL (ie - if you have a signature image, or reference an image in a post, it should still show up)
The strange thing the number of users online at any given time is similar to that of several months ago and the data rates in and out of the site are about the same...given this I'm not sure what has changed over the last few weeks to make the performance of the site suffer. I'll post an update as I figure out what is going on with the server.
Thanks for your patience!

Check on "indexes" for the database. You may need to force a manual re-index and/or analyse the database queries to see where additional indexes might help with response time.
My initial research doesn't immediately point to a database problem. It appears that mysqld and httpd processes are consuming a large amount of memory and aren't releasing....thereby forcing the box to swap. I'm working with our managed hosting provider to investigate. Thanks!

This just happened again today. The Pulse stopped scrolling, and I had to reopen it from the MCO site once it became accessible again.
