TEAM MCO
Everyone,
I wanted to start a thread for the discussion of the new TEAM MCO site. Feel free to include your thoughts on how best we can provide services (your own TEAM MCO journal like what we are doing with our Solo 2 effort) and/or products (TEAM MCO magnetic number panels, shirts, decals, etc.). Thanks and I look forward to getting your feedback!

nfo,
At the bottom of the May 11th post you'll see a link for some pictures from our last event....a lot are fuzzy (because we were really moving
)...but some are clear. We hope to have more pictures after our next event (this weekend).

It is my car
The wheels are SSR Competitions with an Anthracite finish. They are 16" x 7.5" and we're running 215/45R16 Falken Azenis Sports.

This is great, just what I have been looking for! I subscribed to Grass Roots Motorsports for the same type of information on theri MCS, but GRM has been too inconsistant and their on-line updates are far and few between. I am looking forward to following this site closely! Thanks for putting this together!
Looks good.... One of the main reasons I bought my MINI was for H-Stock Autocross.... giving me a way to have a nationaly competetive care without the Cash investment of a modified class... (I have my old Datsun 510 for Street Modified when I fini$h it) ... Looking forward to seeing the design of the Number Plates and if you have connections with MINI USA could find out if a Official Contingency Sticker package or look is required for the MINI USA contingency program.... The info I have so far on that is kinda Vauge...
Love the "Team MCO" concept. I currently compete in SCCA Club Racing in a non-MINI, but am contemplating a new car - perhaps a Cooper for Showroom Stock C - for next season. In the mean time, I may start doing some time trials with my '03 MCS through an organization here in New England called the COM Sports Car Club (http://www.comscc.org). The MCS is classified in their Showroom Stock A category (for a relatively unmodified car). I'd be interested in magnetics for now, and vinyl decals for a dedicated track car in the future (as long as the "look" is still ok for MINI USA contingency as conecarver pointed out)... Will keep you posted if I make it back on track this season in the MCS (have only done one track day in it so far).

Great site and pics. Dumb guy question here. What's with the ice packs on the engine between runs? Is that standard auto-x fare or something that was needed for the MCS?
The car looks vicious and the wheels look great. Keep up the great work.

They are using the ice to reduce heat soak as the car sits between runs.... you only see that on certain cars.... (turbos or supercharged cars that have an intercooler) some also spray ice water on them....
mark,
nice site. kinda carious, what rims are on that blue one? are those ssr competitions? please let me know as those look hot, and i'm looking for somehting similar.

An Editorial Rebuttal
Sirs:
First, the change of logo featuring the manual transmission only. Now, a special, front page featured group for performance and competitiion people only. There is a not-so-subtle message coming through here and it seemed strangely familiar. Then it hit me; you guys have duplicated in MCO the attitude and environment of the suburban or small town high school you attended. The 'official' school logo features the insignia of the football team [sure as hell not the chess club]. The sign out front says "Home of the Knights or the Raiders or the Fighting What-have-yous". Who gets top billing? The jocks. The particpants in the testosterone festival. The rest of the school; hey, who cares about them?
I graduated high school a ways back and have no need to return. This bizarre "Back-to-the Future" gambit does not bode well for MCO. If someone desires to race their MINI, go ahead. Just put the race/competition people on a separate thread and leave the rest of the sites to MINI owners who want to enjoy and improve their MINI experience without having some fool question their manhood because they have a regular MINI with a CVT. Undoubtedly, there are those who will ridicule and deride my opinion. Frankly, I expect it. Some people just never get out of 12th grade in their heads. How sad.

The main tagline from MINIUSA from day one has been, "Let's Motor." They emphasize the superior handling characteristics and the involvement of the driver though out all of the advertising. This isn't some appliance car.
IMO (I don't speak for the site), the new logo continues the theme of driver engagement. Now if you want to get sensitive about it, yes it does represent a manual 5-speed Cooper. Should Cooper S owners get upset because the logo doesn't represent their exact manner of shifting? No. It's the same thing with the CVT then right? Driver involvement is what you make of it I suppose.
Given that, why shouldn't there be an emphasis on improvement of the nut behind the wheel through driver education? A natural and safe environment for that is autocross. If you don't care for the "performance" or "racing" angles yourself, that's fine. But realize that there are *a lot* of people who purchased their cars to modify and compete in it.
Each of us has a different way of expressing our MINI enthusiasm. I rarely go to Interior / Exterior, Wheel and Tire, or Audio, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate a smooth show car or an original set of bonnet stripes or a clean stereo installation. It's the same thing with the MINIs that compete. Why not be happy that there are MINI owners out there that want to demonstrate the skills they have honed (or learn new skills as the case may be)? They are more than holding their own against some high dollar high horsepower cars.
I will admit that competition and TeamMCO are pretty undiluted forms of "Let's Motor," but that doesn't mean it is the focus of the site (just look at the OT forum ranking). It's just one of the many ways owners are using their cars.

Sounds great! I like the idea. The Team MCO page is great, and it would be very cool to find a way to let other MCO members post some results/etc. Not everyone is going to be quite as competitive as you guys (I just hope to win my class locally) but the information from everyone can still be useful.
There might even be a way to create some sort of Team MCO challenge we could all use for bragging rights. Just fun stuff.
I'd use Team MCO stickers/etc for autocrossing, so count me in on that stuff.
Oh, and Micheal, chill out a little. This is just a site about people having fun with their cars. One of those ways is competing. This site (and most other MINI related sites) exist because the car is a blast to drive and people get excited about that. I'm guessing, for example, there aren't too many Toyota Minivan Online sites (or whatever).
Besides, I'm just in a good mood because I FINALLY have a production number, and I'll have my LY/B S in August!

Michael,
I wanted to personally address some of the questions and points you bring up as I was responsible for the launch of TEAM MCO.
>>First, the change of logo featuring the manual transmission only.
As I've said before there were specific business reasons for the logo change away from the MINI-like winged logo we were using previously. The logo we selected was not intended to slight any particular model of MINI but purely intended to create an image that could be uniquely associated with the site. There is no longer confusion with the MINI logo (or any other site for that matter).
>>Now, a special, front page featured group for performance and competitiion people only.
There is no new front page. There is an introduction to TEAM MCO on the home page of MCO that was used as a means of launching the site (to most effectively launch a program you need to give it top billing for some time). If you will notice TEAM MCO (www.teammco.org) is very much its own site.

As a whole I take exception to the above. The intent of TEAM MCO is to promote one aspect of the MINI motoring experience. While I personally am involved in Solo 2 I invited anyone with an interest in some form of competition in the MINI to contact me regarding their interests...Whether that is Solo 2, drag racing, conquers class shows, car audio, road rally, etc. Throughout my introduction of TEAM MCO and the site I make no distinction of who is welcome and who is not (especially based on the type of MINI they chose). TEAM MCO is just one aspect of the MCO community as a whole. Also, keep in mind that the competition aspects of TEAM MCO reflect those that are recognized as legitimate forms of competition. We do not condone and will not provide coverage for illegal forms of competition such as street racing.
As for your comments regarding a "high-school" mentality....I, myself, graduated from high-school twenty years ago and don't feel that age plays a great part in whether you like the MINI and all the experiences it can provide.
