Alta problems

I just put on my Alta Intake...

Started around 3:00-3:30am, ended at 6.

First of all, one of those ball screw things was stripped before I even started... either factory or dealership

Secondly, none of the directions, online or the ones that come with the package, mention the grounding wire that goes through the back panel piece. I had to cut a slit to get that out.

Third, my package came without all the mounting screws/bolt.

Fourth, the original intake tube sucks *** when you try to take it off the bottom of the airbox.

Lastly, and worst of all, the silicone tube I got has a very large vacuum tube, and the clamp for the old one doesn't go all the way on. It's half on, and I'm worried. I'm going to try to go to AutoZone and see if I can find something that will fit until Waylan from Way Motor Works stops by to install my swaybar. I also broke one of the tabs off the fuse box cover It's on there, but it's going to be a ***** to get off later.

Anyone else have problems installing theirs? It was tedious, annoying project, and the instructions really suck.

Do you normall get the mounting screws and whatnot? What about the oil for the filter? I didn't get that either.

Third, my package came without all the mounting screws/bolt. The package does not come with any mounting screws or bolts. You reuse everything. The package should come with 1 or 2 clamps though.

Fourth, the original intake tube sucks *** when you try to take it off the bottom of the airbox. Thats a MINI design and it comes out with alot of wiggling.

The filter comes oiled and is good for about 10k miles. The filter should of come to you in a sealed baggy so that it stayed oiled. You need to buy a cleaner and oil kit to reoil it in the future.

Sounds like you had a bad night
Actually the Alta is considered a pretty easy install, and should really only take about an hour at the most.
I believe one nut and bolt, and maybe a screw, do come with this kit, but it's been a long time.
I gather there may have been some frustration in that you needed to have the car running for the next day? Otherwise in this case it's always good to just walk away from the car and come back after a long break.
Hope it works out in the end for ya

I'm a mechanical nitwit but I had managed to install mine in about an hour and a half. However, I had the Webb instructions, which are great. The little instruction page that comes with the intake is useless, IMHO. Also, my MCS was an auto and Alta originally didn't say that the silicone hose needs to be different for the auto, thus I ended up having to return the hose. Now they allow you to specify auto or manual trans. so you get the correct hose. The factory hose clamps are a bit of a bear to refasten, too. You do need to purchase a separate cleaning/oiling kit but, as previously mentioned, the filter does come pre-oiled. Also, be sure to clean the inside of the neck of the filter really good, too, so that it doesn't slip off the airbox. I was always paranoid about that but it didn't prove to be a problem. Unclamping the ECU leads was frustrating for me as those little locking clips were on pretty tight, especially the one closest to the firewall.

In short, step back, get the Webb how-to guide, read it over a few times first, then dive back into it. If I can do it, anyone can.

I installed the silicon hose on my pilo intake (which I am going to modify anyway). There are some things that are a pain to do when installing the hose. I.e. the hose that goes to the front of the car was a pain to reinstall! To get the hose to sit flush and clamp nicely on the TB, you will need to use some pressure to puch it down on the TB while tightening the clamp! All in all, looks really good and is much bigger then the stock! Now on to modding the pilo intake!

This was an issue with the early models. I know Andy and I both posted on this years ago. Hadn't heard about it in a while and thought it might have been remedied.

Took some surgery with a box knife but mine ended up setting flush. Took as long to do that as the rest of the install.

well i installed my intake in about an hour, and that was being really careful as i was still a noob . And it sat flush then, after some really heaving pushing.

But i took it off to do the BPV recalibration, and when i tried to put it back on, the bstard didn't wanna sit flush anymore. and i am NOT about to disconnect that ram pipe again. I hate that thing.
