Exterior door handles getting sticky residue

As mentioned in the title, My R56 is starting to get this sticky build up on the release lever of the outside door handle. Not sure where it is coming from but I would assume it's a lubricant of some kind that is starting to work itself out of the mechanism? What kind of lube is it and should I be worried it's getting thick and sticky like a tar?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Yep, you got the wear from the older/aged door handles. Its gets bad you have to replace them as it builds up and rubs. If its just sticking from internals it needs a shot of grease. My gen 1 handles looked like that but my gen 2 has not yet.

Weird. My MC40 they got a little tough to pull but they never did this. It's almost like the handle is melting. Of course it has been 10m from the sun freaking hot... Idk. I can open them ok I just get stuff on my hand most times

Yep, i know I changed out my door handles to the checked ones on my R52 ( around 90K), it was in the sun a lot. Now with almost 300K on my R52 the checkered handles are doing the same thing. Time for new ones when i cant stand it anymore. The R58 JCW has yet to do this. But its still pretty new.

Came here to find this. My driver's side door handle on my 2013 R56 is doing the exact same thing with less than 60k miles.
