Navigation & Audio Showing Garmin 3597 LMTHD on ProClip mount
Navigation & AudioAudio upgrades, bluetooth, and navigation discussions surrounding the Clubman (R55), Cooper and Cooper S (R56), and Cabrio (R57) MINIs.
Just thought I'd share my own solution for combo of audio and navigation...
My MCS was built with optional H-K audio but without integrated nav as well as not with the built-in Sirius sat receiver activated. Since I live in a small town in the mountains of AZ, I enjoy having sat radio reception and have SiriusXM receivers in each of my 4 vehicles (including BMW moto). I briefly considered buying a separate XM receiver in combo with the MINI aux-in port but wanted to utilize that space for the Garmin 3597LMTHD unit shared with my 2014 Ford F-150 (intentionally factory ordered without nav).
So, I negotiated a "deal" to enable the Sirius reciver with the MINI dealer where I bought the car and resolved that problem. For my F-150, I bought the Garmin unit linked above chosen for several unique features, including glass HD touchscreen and magnetic docking feature that allows the unit to pop on/off while power cord stays plugged into the Garmin mag mount. For the F-150, I installed a vehicle-specific ProClip mount with RAM ball base which nicely integrates with this specific Garmin model.
OK for my MCS, figured why not replicate same method utilizing ProClip vehicle-specific mount for 2nd gen MINI in combo with same ProClip Garmin ball mount used in the F-150. To accommodate simply lifting the Garmin off mag mount and transferring between F-150 and MINI, I bought a second Garmin mag mount to leave attached to the 2nd ProClip in the MINI. Power is routed to an added dual USB power port attached to the RH (passenger side) of console, which is unswitched to the fuse box as I prefer. Position of the Garmin nav is out of the way of display and controls, while also being out of direct sunlight glare. Works for me!
On my '09 and my '12 R56s I mounted Garmin w/ its suction cup on Speedo on top of 120 mph position. And a Samsung phone similially on top of the 40 mph position. (phone was running dashcommand so I didn't need the speedo, etc.). Both come off for hiding.

I didn't know people used dedicated navy's anymore. I use my phone. Most radio I like is availed for streaming and between Spotify and Paandora music is pretty much covered.
Waze works great for for navigation. Just seems redundant. This is my phone mounted in wife's Pilot on. Koomus Pro suction mount. Works great on almost any surface. Have same set up in my Jeep and R52.
