I have received a press release from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with the following information for F1 weekend:

Car Corral

The car corral will be located on the backstretch of the oval again this year. You must have a grandstand ticket (cheapest is 75.00) or you can get a 3 day general admission pass for 60.00 (single race day GA tickets are not avail). You must also have a parking pass for the corral. To obtain the parking pass you need to call the IMS ticket office and identify yourself as a MINI car club member and tell them you would like to participate in the car corral. You will need your IMS ticket account number when you call. The ticket office number is 800-822-4639.

You must be driving your MINI with the parking pass to get into the corral!

Downtown Cruise Friday Evening

There will be a cruise of downtown Indianapolis. To qualify to do the cruise there must be a minimum of 20 MINIs and there is a max of 50. The tentative day/time is Friday at 7:45PM. You will need to RSVP for the cruise by 5/20/04. NOTE:We can still get in on same day and time and join some Corvettes without meeting the 20 car.

Saturday Evening
The MINI Car Club of Indiana (MINICCI) will be hosting a gathering. Place is to be determined. This should be finalized by the end of the month. No RSVP needed.

Race Day

There will be a police escort into the track again this year. You must RSVP for this. The time for this has not been determined yet. The meeting place and time for this will be announced closer to race day.

Fan Appreciation

There will be a fan appreciation day on Monday June 21, 2004. You have to purchase your ticket for the 2005 race that day to be able to drive 1 lap on the F1 race circuit. The lap is at a paced speed following a track vehicle.

I will post updates as I get them.

Any RSVPs or questions can be emailed to me at minitencan@sbcglobal.net or send me a PM here. Hope to see you all in June!

Thanks,
Cheryl Nichols

There have been some people that have said they would like to do some of the events but they don't have tickets to the race. The only events that you have to have tickets to the race are the ones at the track themselves. You do NOT have to have a race ticket to participate in the Downtown Cruise or the MINICCI gathering the night before the race.

Saturday evening MINICCI will be hosting a Boot Gathering here are the details:

When: Saturday June 19, 2004
Time: 6:00 PM
Where: PKV Racing's parking lot 4001 Methanol Lane (71st and Guion Rd)

The location is on the northwest side on Indy. Here is a link to a map.

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.ad...x=0&fakeTab.y=0

We will be grilling out in the lot (hamburgers/hot dogs). We will be providing the entire meal (sandwich, chips, salads, drinks, etc). Nothing fancy, just a chance to get together before the big race.

If you are interested let us know, need to get an idea of how much food to prepare.

This is open to any MINI that would like to join us!

Is it too late to let you know that I am going to be able to make it? My dad and I just found a room and we're ready to roll! I can't wait!

It is too late to do the cruise, but you are more than welcome at the boot gathering Saturday evening. I am unsure about getting the corral pass, you would need to contact the ticket office on that. Their number is 800-822-4639. They should be open tomorrow morning to ask. Hope this helps. Any other questions email to minitencan@sbcglobal.net.

 How was this event? How about a report to re-cap it for those of us following this thread, Cheryl?

Thanks!

Here's a recap of the weekend:

The Downtown Cruise was great! This was the first time I had done it and will definately do it again. In our group there were 10 MINIs along with a few other cars. We took off from the Indianapolis Zoo and went into downtown, around Monument Circle, and on some other roads back to the zoo. I had no idea how many people would be around all the streets watching the cars go by! It was great not to have to stop for any of the red lights. There were some other MINIs that went at a different time than we did so I am not sure how many total there were that did the cruise.

The Boot gathering was a great time to meet a lot of people from out of town. We had one of our club members manning the grill (a huge thanks to Nigel for cooking for us and to PKV Racing for letting us use there place) with hamburgers, hot dogs, and some brauts. We lined up all the MINIs and took a group panormanic photo (thanks to the photographer, I can't remember your name, sorry , there were too many to keep them all straight). The pic should turn out really nice and we should be able to post it when we get it. If I counted right there were 20 MINIs there, mostly from out of state. (Wis., NC, OH, CO, IL, TN just to name a few). I especially enjoyed meeting everyone!

The car corral had 25 MINIs, I think. We were one of the more represented cars there! That was really cool to have so many lined up. Way more MCS's than MC's and I think about every color except VR. The race was good (since MS won!).

That is about it. If you were there and I have left out anything please post it! I am getting old and you know what they say about the memory......

Well, no one at the race did. But when I got home, it was the second thing my sister did. She hugged me, then pushed the button, and said it was funny. Then she asked who JB was and everything. So I explained about the race and the great MINI turnout.
