On the Alta accessport are you able to make the map the same for the sport mode on and sport mode off without a custom tune. On my 08 STi I had a Cobb accessport and with the street tuner program I was able to copy all the map settings for the Sport # mode to sport mode and it was nice.
I read that the MCS ECU can kind of adjust for higher octanes and advance the timing to make more power. Will it be critical to tune for other octanes on the Alta AP like the Cobb AP is for the STI? For example I used to put 5 gallons of MS109 in my STI and switch to a 95 octane real time map which made about 25 more horepower over CA 91 octane swill. If I left my AP on the 91 oct base map there would be almost no gain in performance. I guess my question is will the Mini make considerably more power with a custom map over an OTS map with 95-100 octane fuel?
Being completely ignorant, what will this do for me.
I have the JCW kit installed on my 08 R56. No other performance mods. What kind of improvements would I see. A 10% bump? I am also not very mechanically inclined and don;t have a lot of time. Is it simply plugging the module in and flashing the ECU? Any "info For Dummies" would be great.
If it is what i think it is I'll be inline drooling with cash in hand.

Your question about installation is also an easy one. Its about 4 minutes to install. We will either email you maps, or load them on the ALTA AccessPORT for you. Then you will plug the unit into your car, and in less than 4 minutes you are done! Unplug and drive! That is the simple version for the guy who just wants more power. From there there are gauges, data logging, CEL clearing, and a few other goodies. Also if you go to the dealer, you just UNinstall and in 2 minutes you are ready!
Look for a new thread where we ask NAM about what you want the ALTA AccessPORT to do for you! I would love to hear it all! If you ask here i may copy the same suggestions over to the new thread. Now that there is more info out there, i know there will be more questions and suggestions than ever!
I asked Jeff this morning about the Performance section of the AP from COBB. Jeff indicated that it is being worked on for the MINI and it will be released in the upcoming weeks. Adjustments need to be made for our FWD MINIs to accommodate for wheel spin and other things.
This info is from the COBB website in regards to the Performance section of the AP:

Every AccessPORT has built in Performance Monitors. These are great for showing the performance of your vehicle in the current state of tune with the modifications you have installed as well as helping to quantify performance gains when you make additional modifications. These are also great tools to help you improve your skills at the drag strip. It's like printing off your own time slip any time you want!
The following Performance Monitors are available:
60' Time: Elapsed time to 60' distance. Indicates how well your car is hooking up off the line.
330' Time: Elapsed time to 330' distance.
0-60 mph: See where your car stacks up against the 0-60mph times published in the major car magazines.
1/8 Mile: Elapsed time and vehicle speed at 1/8 mile distance (660').
1000' Time: Elapsed time to 1000' distance.
1/4 Mile: Elapsed time and vehicle speed at 1/4 mile distance.
Dynamometer: This monitor simulates a dynamometer. Based on vehicle weight and acceleration rates, it estimates the horsepower of your engine. This is a great tool for evaluating performance gains after completing new modifications or installing a different performance map.

Obviously I can now talk about the AP and the ALTA tune. If anyone still has questions about my tune, I'd be happy to answer. The AP device is truly multi-functional in its abilities.
I managed to get a couple of halfway decent sound clips of my exhaust today. I used the iPhone 4 Voice Memo app to record these. I had my pilot's (driver's) side window partially down while recording. If you turn up the volume a little bit and listen close you can hear some of the P&B effect in the exhaust sound.
These links will only be active for 30 days and if the data transfer amount gets to high, it might be cut off sooner.

One is 44 seconds long, the other just shy of a minute.

It recorded as an m4a file. When I uploaded it to mobile me it wrapped in an mov file. It should play in either Itunes or Windows Media player if it is coming up as an .m4a file or Quicktime if it retains the .mov extension. I've had it go both ways when I accessed it depending on which browser I tried.
