DIY Driving light covers

I looked most of this week for light covers for my driving lights. The standard white covers that came with the OEM driving lights just didn't look good with my mcs ds/b, so I took matters into my own hands. It wasnt that hard. I needed burbon, a razor blade, 3m paint tape, special formulated plastic primer, spray paint, spray clear coat, and a ruler. Below is the picture story of the process.

If anybody is intersted in details as to how to do it, let me know. Ill also post in a month or so and let you know how the paint held up after four coats of clear coat.

Masking was easy with a ruler and a razor blade. I used tweezers to remove the tape so I wouldnt damage the wet paint.

After four coats of clear coat and 48 hours of drying time to make sure its good and dry, the finished product is pretty nice in my opinion, custom covers with a matching bonnet stripe.

I had the dealer install them. I wanted to be able to yell at somebody if I wasn't happy with the job.

Those covers look great! I hope they hold up. I painted the OEM covers black and they chipped pretty badly. The car didn't get any chips, but those covers sure did. I eventually found the OEM black covers which are solid black.

My MA said he would order me some black covers and they should be here in about two weeks. He said the whites just didnt look right. Thats part of the reason I decided to give this a shot, since I knew I had others on the way.

When you did your covers, did you use any clear coat? Im going to wait a week or so and then try and put a couple of coats of wax on it to try and seal it even better. I'm hoping enough layers of ""stuff" will keep it from knicking up.

I only put 1 coat of clear on. I think more coats would have helped for a while.

So Far So Good. No knicking, and I got stopped at a red light by a yellow mini wanting to know where I got my covers

As promised heres a "knick" update.

One month and 1800 miles into the covers there are no visible knicks. I even clayed them last week to remove some bug guts. I think the layers of automotive clear coat, and two layers of epic wax have helped. Ill continue to add epic each time I wash the car just to give it an additional protective layer.

Eventually I would like to try this mod again, but this time with OEM spec Dark Silver Paint. If anyone knows where I can get it in a can, I would be very appreciative.

That's great to hear they aren't chipping!

There are some spray paint colors here but not really sure if they have the one you need.
