Wish my engine bay looked like THIS... Can anyone tell me what carb/air filter that is, and what's going on w/ the alternator here?

This is mine... :: hangs head ::...

A clean engine bay is a sure sign of a sick mind... although I do love the remote location of the oil filter

I think we're looking at the A/C compressor. Alternator is probably hidden below it? Your engine bay will be looking like this before the summer is over!
Very Nice Photos! Man, I have to go to one of these meets. What fun.

The carb is an HIF4 (1 1/2") or likely HIF6 (1 3/4") SU with a K&N (or similar) cone filter
Remove the valve cover & paint gloss black (or get a polished one). Paint engine block red enamel or Ford Blue for contrast (hi-temp), paint radiator black. Careful masking & removal of parts & you can do it with the motor in situ. Paint coil black (or get a chrome cover for it) Replace the ugly plastic air filter with a shiniy K&N. Not a lot of money to do this. Mostly time and careful detailing. You'd be amazed how much a little paint will do in there...

Now this is what you need to do
Great pictures. Give us more when you get them.
I may go out again tomarrow just to hang and watch the cars a bit... I need more pictures....
I worked graves last night and I'll work graves again tonight, so I got off work ,drove an hour, took pics, drove an hour, and have slept a bit since :P Tonight is my last night on shift, so I could probably stop by a bit more tomarrow.
(it's what you got to do to see any large amount of minis for sure)
Nice info and neet to see all the different ideas...

If you want a carbon roof, doors (Mk1 or Mk2), front end, bonnet, boot lid, Gp2 flares, or rear valance for your classic you can contact Bob Beauchemin in Kamloops BC as it's all his work. beaucheminrobert@hotmail.com

Wonderful... I messaged him about prices and such... I'd love to get a roof and hood... I would think the roof is not a "Replacement", but a CF shell over the stock roof...
I'd paint over most of the hood, and leave unpainted CF stripes down the sides, like the painted stripes are....
I was going to paint my roof black and stripe my hood, so this may work out well, while being pretty unique... hmmm.....

I recognize that engine bay - It's Jim K. from Washington's Mini. The AC in his Mini works better than the one on my new Jetta! He does some absolutely AMAZING work! I took this photo of him and his "other car" at the Best of the Northwest show in Snohomish Washington.
Ah... so the oil filter was relocated... Slick. And so easy to get to! I'll have to think about doing that - not sure if it's possible with my engine or if I have space - my car has a resivoir sitting in that same area...
As for the rest, I'll definitely be getting a polished rocket cover (I'm searching for one I heard about from a AH Sprite with the word "Sprite" molded into it, but am having no luck locating one), as well as paint the engine. I'm nervous about doing it in the car, though - I'm afraid it will look like @$$ if I don't do it properly and pull it out for painting. I don;t have a hoist, though, so pulling the block out is a pipe dream ATM, even if I had the technical chops required to dissassemble the entire motor (which I really don't). Sigh...
CHKMINI - I really am torn between the checkers and the Union Jack now... That really does look fantastic! GAH!!
I also am looking for a tilt-out rear window conversion kit - I could use the extra ventillation.
Jim K, really is amazing - please pass on my compliments to him if anyone from here talks to him - thanks!

The original roof is actually cut off, and the new CF roof is bonded to the existing metal pillars with a special adhesive. Pretty slick actually, and it weighs very little.
Bob's race car has all of his CF creations on it and the whole car weighs about 950 pounds.

Nice! I'd love to take a few laps in a 950-lbs. race-prep'ed mini. CF on BRG is really nice, too!
Off topic--sorry-but... are there any pix of the CF race mini floating around?
I've seen it somewhere.... can't remember where though... it's a "mini" in the fact that it looks like one... but it's pretty much a CF shell on a basic aluminum race chassis...
Got info on the bonnet and hood.... 1100 for the top and 400 for the bonnet... not "Too" bad for CF parts that big and rare... I'm soo longing for those now...

The carbon roof on the green car is just a skin bonded over the existing roof. That was not Bob's intention but thats what the buyer wanted to do so he made it thin with no ribs. The roof he makes to replace the steel weighs in at about 5 lbs. It saves about 25 lbs off the top of the car. Bob's race car is still a standard steel tub with conventional suspension. He does have KAD alloy rear swing arms with disc brakes and alloy coilovers but the front still uses rubber donuts and Koni's. The one piece carbon front bodywork weighs around 5 lbs, doors are 3 lbs each, boot lid is just under 1 lbs, so I'm sure you're getting the idea. Also the 10x6 Kodiak wheels weigh 5 lbs each.
