Cool but, the rigitity of the Modular Front End (the composite thing you cut into) is severely comprimised. Several procedures (oil pan removal, clutch/trans work, etc.) call for the MFE to be slid forward on long bolts, it needs all its rigidity to prevent collapsing in on itself. However, if you wanted, you could just remove it for any job in the future.

Do you really notice brake fade often? I have a hard time getting mine to feel faded. They hold temp well and really bite when warmed up.

This duct is a copy of the JCW which requires the same proceedure...the part that is cut (fiber reinforced plastic) only carries the fog lamps and the lower part of the front fender liner...it worked ok for the JCW cup...ok with me...

No brake fade...but every small advantage counts...it's not for everyone...

Had to jump in since I didn't see this answered, ... the jack stands are Torin Big Red

They are very sharp looking. I used mine once and the problem I had was that they are not wide enough for the jackpoints to sit completely on the jack stands 100%. You only get one side on. To work around that problem I cut small blocks of wood that go into the jackpoints and fit perfectly on the jack stands. Haven't used them yet to get the whole car up in the air because I only have 2 stand, but I just ordered 2 more.

I went with the stands becuase other stand would have dug into the blacktop on the drive way (the only place I have to work), and these didn't dig in.

ok, back on topic ... Very nice brake duct project!!!!

Hey thanks for the info...my Mini's still out in the rain up on jacks because I didn't get done with my mods yet Should'da plan my work plan better...

Just waiting for the new splitter standoffs to arrive tomorrow...they'll be attached to the frame this time and come out where the driving lamps used to be through the two holes in the grill...

Need to fix the rust in the tow hook Everything fit perfectly...the tire clears the ducts no problem throughout it's travel envelope...I blew air through the ducts and it comes out strong against the brake rotors...more tomorrow...

I may...if I do, I'll sell the brackets with them less wiring harness though...

BTW, for anybody interested just give Waylen a call at 317-201-8670. Maybe you can even get Sid to hack your bumper and install them for you too.

did you have to remove any aluminum bumper reinforcement to get the duct to fit?

Also, what is holding the actual "air ducts" in place near the "exit" point?

Gonna give Way a call and order the ducts for my track car.

I know from just removing the fog lamps, cutting a 3" hole in the wheel well and installing a short piece of tubing in there will decrease my BBK rotor temperature by 140°f.

I hope you don't mind me posting your PM question here so I can answer them for everyone...

A small corner of the aluminum bumper structure needs to be trimmed to clear the funnel of ram intake...this will be self evident when you start the install...cutting this tiny amount of extrusion at the ends of the bumper will not affect the integrity at all...

The duct front is held against the ram intake via a slip fit and the rear of the duct is ziptied to the fender liner...

I'll take a photo later today and come back...

Nicely done, Sid. I've been looking at those brake ducts for a while and wondering how I could justify getting them. Some serious brake fade a couple of times on the Dragon and smoking pads at Deal's Gap have solved that problem. Nice job on the install, too.

If these are the same as the JCW ducts...then they will probably won't fit on the Aero bumper... do you know any thing about that, Sid?

They don't just bolt right up the the aero bumper just yet. Gnatster is having his mated to his aero kit and said he would post results. Although, waylen also said that he was working on sets for the aero kit and they would be available soon.

Are the MCS and MC stock bumper covers similar enough that these ducts will work on a Cooper also? Brake cooling would help my life out a lot. :D
