Clubman issues and/or problems

Naturally we all hope there are none!

Since I'd wanted to research this new MINI, I'd been reading MINI2 quite a bit and there is a thread there devoted to "issues".

The specific I'm interested in hearing about from those of you who are in the USA is related to a "missing" door seal...see this quote for an overview:
Checked mine today (delivered Monday) and the seal is missing on the passenger side as per other comments.

Based upon what people have said I phoned dealer to advise them I want it put on, but they stated that the system shows it to "not be required on the passenger side, but I can buy one for £7 + VAT"!!. So according to my dealer the Clubman should definately not have one. Strange. I mentioned if rust could be caused due to the lack of seal and assured this would not occur. Might just get that in writing!!
The thread itself begins here: http://www.mini2.com/forum/mini-club...ts-please.html

Does your Clubman have a door seal on both sides? Does it matter? Is it or is it not standard? I doubt I would even have noticed if it did or did not, but now, of course, I am wondering.

I think this is a non-issue. I have an outer seal on the club door side but not the other and there's no difference between them in terms of wind noise or leaks; I.E. none of either!

Closing is marginally easier without it though so think of the lack as an improvement!

Excellent to hear. I think I need to go back to a less obsessive reading plan.

I'm a litle confused, which side is missing the door seal, the left side (USA driver's) or the right side (UK driver's)? Can anyone think of a reason why MINI would not have an outer door seal on both sides? It seems like a trivial part to omit, unless MINI had an engineering /design reason to not put it on.

Sorry but I hoped I would avoid confusion by defining the side WITH the seal as the "club door side" rather than left/right or driver's/passenger!

But the side WITHOUT an outer seal is what you think of as the driver's. (Don't worry about it though; just be grateful that you won't have to slam the driver's door as hard as I do!)

Is there a comparable door seal on the left side of the MINI Cooper?

Could it be the door seal is needed only because of the "club door" configuration on the right side? Anyone with a MINI Cooper who can answer?

The club door is on the right side of all of them, does not matter which side the drivers side is.

There's a thread somewhere about R56s missing the bottom outer door seal on both doors. Some people have them on both sides and some don't. I don't and it's not an issue for me but some people were raising a storm and their dealers were ordering and installing the seals... I can't find the dang thread!

my issue is that there is NO traffic feature on my navigation system yet..they say an upgrade is going to be ready soon, but i dont know how they can think that it is normal for a navigation system without a traffic feature on it..

bridgehorse, I haven't listened to this yet but you may find it helpful: http://www.motoringfile.com/2008/03/...oof-radio-232/ It's on Motoringfile and it's White Roof radio's discussion of
Navigation systems; in-car vs portable. All the information we could find, advantages of each, disadvantages of each and I’m pretty sure we disagreed on more than one item.

Same here. Mine is waiting for the software with her info as the voice activated system doesn't work and there is no real time traffic thing..

We have noticed a noise on the first trip (< 50 miles) coming from the upper part of "club door" I was the passenger and clearily there was a "windy" noise that was heard from the driver, too. Did not notice it anymore, but I have driven the Clubman only once and kept the music volume quite high.

Check out this thread for the navigation traffic issues, if you haven't already: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=124900 You are clearly not alone if you're having this problem of no traffic info. It's under 2nd Generation, Navigation & Audio and goes into the details.

thank you very much for this information!! i findit highly irresponsible for mini not to put a traffic feature on a 2000 dollar navigation system i bough..it is just pure laziness and being in a not care attitude to the customer.

From what I gathered when reading through that thread, it appears that the dealer needs to update your software. Have you called your MA yet?

Yes I have, as a matter of fact, I asked from day one and I just find it so irresponsible of mini to think that noone would notice this very important feature, and just tell the customer to buy it and not even say that the traffic is not on there...i dont know anyone who has a navigation system (non-mini) that does not have a real time traffic feature..it is really frustrating. I did ask them and they said the updates are ready any day now, that was 2 weeks ago..they must think we are stupid or something. The dealer also told me that they had complaints about the traffic which made them get the update...that certainly is ridiculous cause that feature should have been in there regardless

Well, I hope everyone that has posted these various issues will come back and let us all know when and how they were resolved. The important thing now is that issues get fixed, as frustrating as they are to have in the first place.

I've never bought a first year out version of a car before.

I specifically asked my MA about these issues - no RTTI and no Voice Activation. She researched and came back with an internal (?) message from MINI that stated approximately 800 Clubmans made at the end of 2007/early 2008 were inadvertently produced without the RTTI and Voice Nav functions due to an assembly line issue. Apparently this is a software-only issue that is "easily" rectified at the dealer.

She assured me the problem has been corrected and woud not affect my order.
