2005 MCS Weight

Today at WDCR's Level 3 school (Thanks Brian!) I had my 2005 Mini Cooper S weighed, thought I'd share it's total as a datapoint...

2005 Mini Cooper S
Options: Xenon lights, cold weather package, LSD, DSC. Less than 2 gallons of fuel in tank, everything stock-class legal to remove from car removed..

Weight: 2573 lbs...

Hope someone finds this useful.

Last season, here is what I had at the Peru National Tour with my 2004 MCS

Xenon's
Sport package
Cold weather package
Alta exhaust
SSR comps
Koni shocks

zero gas 2456 lbs

I removed everything I could for Stock class, which was the floor mats, removable cup holder (the ashtray thing with the lid) and the jack. I was not sure if I could pull anything else out - the trunk carpet appeared to be attached, everything else looked like it was screwed/bolted/snaped in place.

I could have pulled out the little rubber lining's for the various cup holders, but that would only ammount to a few ounces - left them in so I did not loose them.

If I wanted to get uber light, I supose I could have emptyed the winshield and headlight washer fluid containers, but that seemed like more troube than it's worth. Might have saved a few pounds with that one. IIRC, it took a gallon of washer fluid to fill both containers, so perhaps 8.5 pounds total.

If I went with Brian's uber light Supertrap exhaust, that would be another 25 pounds or so.

With SSR Comp's (11.5 pounds/ea) and Hoosers (3 pounds less than Azenis), I could have saved about 38 pounds - if I buy racing wheels and have the oppurtinuty to weigh my car again, I'll post those numbers..

I hope that at full race trim, I could get very close to 2500 pounds..

Craig,

Thanks god I am not the only one obsessed with weight. Did you weight all 4 16" SSR Comp's? I was in a hurry and only weight 1 of 4 on an accuracy UPS scale. It came in 11.75 lb. I regret I didn't weight them all. I am curious their weight distribution across a number of samples.

I do not yet own SSR Comps, I was just using thier published weight..

If you think I'm obsessed, you should check out the Lightweight Miata guys - they get their cars close to 1900 pounds!

Is there a significant weight difference between the leatherette interior and the cloth? I just ordered an 05 and can still choose between leatherette and cloth. Any pro's cons to either other than weight?

I got the cloth not for the weight but for the better grip the cloth offers over the leatherette. My feeling is the cloth might also be lighter. After driving a "courtesy car" from the dealer with leatherette and sliding around in the seat I know that I made the right choice going with fabric.

Besides, the cloth is cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Also much more comfortable when it is hot and sweaty. You don't stick to the seat.
