Mini's Under the Arches??? Fall 2007

Now's a better time than ever to see how many people would be interested in a Fall mini rally next year. www.miniutah.com group is thinking of putting on an event in Moab UT. Tons of great roads through the slickrock scenery. Not to mention the obvious Mtn. Biking, Rafting, and hiking. I hope to see a lot of interest in this as this could be a lot of fun.

Post your interest here.

Fall would be cool, but keep in mind that the second annual MITM will also be competing for the vacation time of those of us coming in from out of state. It would be good to coordinate the date somewhat.

Having been to Moab for mountain biking, I know the section along the river is a picturesque drive, and Arches is nearby, but how are the other roads in terms of being good for MINI group drives.

The sooner the better in terms of getting dates announced given that fall is a popular time to be in the Moab area with the weather getting cooler (i.e. sub 100 during the day). We'll definitely be competing for space with the mountain bike and 4wd crowd. It could be a very good time though.

Dave, good point on time. Do not have on the same weekend as the fat Tire Festival (end of October) or the Jeep Jamboree!
The drive to Deadhorse Point is good, be sure to stop at the end! Doing the La Sal loop is great. If you get bored, your problem!

I am sure there is plenty of interest

from the Colorado contingent. I am with Dave, let's be sure too coordinate dates.

There are other rather large events we plan on in the fall to work around -
  • September - The Colorado British Motoring Conclave - 2nd weekend in September
  • October - MINI5280 Yalla Yalla (our annual anniversary event)
  • Run for the Corners (Run for the Border, etc) with the New Mexico MINI group - to the 4 Corners (hey, everyone is invited. This year we had Utah and NV and AZ participants)
  • MITM - likely to be in August, before school is back in session
But there is plenty of time. I had the chance to drive Arches this spring on the way back from AMVIV. In fact, we did 4 of Utah's 5 National Parks. Yes, there are lots of roads. The River Road, up to I-70 and back, is among the best. Some of the others are great, but, um, desolate. Not a lot going on in between the National Parks. But hey, a full day or more in the park with many, many MINIs offers great picture opps and beautiful roads, but with very strict speed limits in the park. There is also lots of traffic.

Pictures of Arches located at www.JonathanDarcyandBerk.smugmug.com

The President of MINI5280 is Rick Gonzales (Pauhana in NAM). He can be reached at Info@MINI5280.org and is the one to schedule any official MINI5280 events.

Thanks,

JPS

It's funny, all of your concerns you've both just mentioned were already discussed a month or so ago within our UT club. Timing being the biggest obsticale due to the ever groing amount of meets in the country. We were aimiing for October, which was done to avoid as many of these national events as possible, while the temp are still decent. The other issue is that it really is in the middle of very little civilization, but that's why we chose this . We thought that it'd be different than most around the country. Spring is the busiest overall for Moab, but Fall is not far behind. Hotels and such are plentiful, on the right weeks. Moab is no stranger to mass amounts of groups coming in all at once (Jeep and Land Rover jamborees). I don't think it'll be hard to find a weekend where it'll all work for Moab, it's just the national Mini timing that will be a bit tough. But hey, Copper seems to be a success so far with all of the registered. I'll be watching close when I come out in Aug so I can get some ideas for our possible So Ut meet.

Perfect idea Ryan!! So, if any of you CO or Sin City people would like to meet us for a gathering this year, post up. That way we can really scout it all out for sure. I've been to Moab many times, but it's been a couple years.

If the timing works, I'm sure several of the "up for everything" members of the Sin City MINI Club will attend. Last October was the Run 4 The Corners run which the Vegas people who attended said was a great weekend. I missed it on my own cross-country classic Mini adventure. I'd like to do that this year, so please either combine the events of seperate them enough that I can do both.

Steve? Mark? You wanna chime in here?

I'm sure you can count on a contingent from the DMC in Arizona as well

I handle coordination with other clubs for just this type of event, so please let know if we can be of any help.

I guess a 5 hour drive up to Miller Motorsports Park might be a bit much to add a track event? Just thought I'd throw it out there after drooling over the track on TV during the AMA Superbike races!

Ooooh, that would be nice, but a long drive, it's a great track. Maybe we could get something together just for that at some other date, though.

I can sure try to see what we can do for a track day. We might just have to join the BMW gang to cover the costs of a track day. Miller is much more expensive to run at than most in the country due to it being so new. Tough to get in right now. I'll be there this weekend for Le Mans, so it should be fun to watch.
