Is Nuzzo Done??

I had the feeling that after Trois-Rivieres this year that Nuzo might be calling it quits. Now that it seems that his cars will again have to undergo many thousands of dollars of ECU upgrades and after the poor results of the 2006 season that the future of this two car team might come to a close.

What's up?

They stopped updating their website after Limerock in May. Kind of wondered what happened to them. Seemed to be going good in the early part of the year then just fell off ...

His car was in the MINIUSA tent at the MTTS wrap up day at Limerock, but I don't know anything other than that

He may be trying to drum up some major sponsorship now and can't really post anything while negotiations are ongoing.........(hoping and praying this is true).

But I have to say that he would probably be a lot more successful in the Speed Touring car series. It seems to have more of an equal footing between the cars, what with the rewards weight given out.

You will see several teams that were doing Grand Am moving over to the Speed series. It promises to be a very good series next season. I hear that it may even try and adopt the title of "Trans Am" ..

Here's the facts

Nuzzo is in negotiations for a major sponsor for 2007.

Nuzzo is not going to SWC. Many teams/drivers from SWC have come over to GA.

Since my web site was turned over to others for updates I no longer am able to update it the way I did in the past.

Nuzzo has not called it quits.

The new Bosch ECU is not required in GAC until Jan 2008.

We've had some bad luck this year. At Ohio we had some maintenance issues and immediately following the race I made some crew changes. I have gone to a new engine builder, maintenance shop and crew chief.

At Trois-Rivieres both cars ran as high as top three in practice. The 20 car lost an engine during qualifying an there wasn't enough time to swap it before the race. The 22 car got crashed out before completing two laps. A major crash stopped the race for about 25 minutes at which time we could not work on the cars. So our race was over.

We will run the 12 race season in 2007 beginning at Daytona in January.

See you at the races
Tony

Tony, I believe that for all the bad times there will be good times. 2007 will be your year.
BTW I hope you don't mind me using your Number in autocross. That's how big of a fan I am.

Great news!

When you didn't enter the VIR race earlier this month .... I was worried too!

Hope to see you @ The Glen, VIR, Mid-Ohio [and others] next year.

Done with MINI and into a GTI.

Nuzzo Named Lead Driver for Volkswagen GTI's Racing Debut

January 22, 2007 - Glen Head, NY

Nuzzo Motorsports, team owner Tony Nuzzo has been selected by GSM Motorsports as the lead driver for the Volkswagen GTI's professional racing debut in the Grand-Am Koni Challenge Series Fresh from Florida 200 at Daytona International Speedway this January 26.

Nuzzo is no stranger to firsts he was the first to race a Porsche Boxster in North America, the first to professionally race the MINI Cooper S earning MINI its first professional podium and placing MINI in the top ten for the Manufactures Championship four years in a row.

Also joining the GSM team as Nuzzo's co-driver will be Andrew Lewis of Cooper City, Fl. Andrew has raced in World-Challenge Touring Cars, Grand-Am Cup and began his racing career in karting as most young drivers have.

Tony Nuzzo, team principle of Nuzzo Motorsports said, "I'm excited to join the GSM team and to be a part this historic moment. I have owned many VW's over the years and think the GTI will be very competitive once it's been fully developed. The team has done a great job in a short amount of time to get the car ready. And I'm looking forward to driving it at Daytona and seeing just how good this car can be against the tough competition in Grand-Am Koni Challenge this year."

Jon Lewis, Owner of GSM Motorsports said, "We're very pleased that Tony has decided to join our team for the GTI's debut at Daytona. Tony brings a lot of experience to the table as both a driver and team owner. Developing a new car takes time, but we believe that by teaming with Tony, we will be able to substantially reduce the curve. We're proud to be the first team in the USA to race the new Volkswagen GTI professionally. We've been involved with Grand-Am for a number of years now and when it was time to look at fielding a team ourselves we didn't have to look far for the best candidate." We've always been a fan of the GTI and when the new car's impressive performance was revealed during a test drive, the decision was made for us."

Tony Nuzzo is the owner of Nuzzo Motorsports which campaigned the MINI Cooper S in Grand-Am for four years. Tony began racing in Porsche Club and drove his first professional race in 2001 in a Rolex Series GT Class Porsche finishing sixth in class and tenth overall. In 2002, Tony finished third in the Drivers Championship in Grand-Am Cup's STII Class and was named 2002 Rising Star. In 2003 Tony began campaigning the MINI Cooper S in Grand-Am ST class and in 2005 earned MINI to its first professional podium finishing third at Watkins Glen co-driving with Steve Pattee.
