Gas and dead pedal removal

Well, I'm about to head out to the shop and start where I left of yesterday. I have everything out of the way to get the carpet out except for the gas and dead pedals. Did some pocking and pulling and nothing budges. Any tips? Bentley's , as usual, has nothing on this.
Also, are we only a drive by wire gas pedal? I see in this photo (supplied by Tony B) that Nuzo, and this other photo are using cable. Any tips?

This IS the first "modern" car I've done this too. Ya know, no carburetor, no distributor...

Thanks!

Maybe this will help. I can't find "dead pedal" in my manual. Do you know what else it could be called?

Got the answer on switching to cable. Would have to then go with something like a Motec.

The front plate of the dead pedal prys off (you'll notice a small notch in it to get your tool under). That gives you access to the 2 mounting bolts.

Dead pedal: also known as footrest
MINI's aren't the only car to use the throttle by wire system. All Volvo's from the 99 S70 on, all Audi's from at least '03 if not earlier, mercedes and bmw though i don't know what years or models for those two. I'm sure there are a lot more. It's becoming extremely popular with Euro's because it gives the traction control systems more authority over throttle position when wheel spin is detected.

Greg,

When/if you re-install the dead pedal, make sure you don't over-torque the nuts.

From memory, mine were plastic and they can easily strip.

I got a Haynes manual from the UK for $30. Really nice plus the electric diagrams are actually easy to understand unlike the Bentley version. Also Bentley is $100.

You can get it directly from their site www.haynes.co.uk
