Anyone looking into SCCA IT-B yet?

The 2002 and 2003 MINI's are now 5 years old which would allow the base model (MC) to run in SCCA's Improved Touring - B class.

Has anyone been running in this class, or been thinking about it?

I'm pretty sure that the MINI would do very well in this class...especially with a good quality build. [other successful cars: 80's VW GTI, 4Cyl Mustangs, 80's Volvos, and 80's Accords...etc...]

I'm just hoping that there will be several successful builds out there by the time I get out of college so I can buy one then and race it!

i think someone on the east/northeast coast is building one.
i have been eying that since they classified the cooper, and i'm very excited to see the outcome. now, according to the rules and discussions ive seen on other boards, the only thing against it is the possible power output. compared to the rest of the field:
+1 handling
+1 brakes
-1 power
It responds great to the camber plates so tire wear isn't an issue, but i don't think anyones done an IT engine build on it yet to find out if it's got power potential. (stock inside parts/manifold, +.040 over bore, +.5 compression, balance/blueprint, port matched, cold air intake, header/exhaust, ecu tune) some cars respond great, others no better than stock. so i was looking at the 2008 rules and it can use 15" and 16" wheels, but your limit is 6" wide. so finding a 16x6 wheel....its out there but not as many choices. i hope im wrong tho. I'm just wondering about the midlands tranny. if it's fragile anyway, will it become an expensive disposable part? metal treatments could fix them perhaps? the values of the 02-03 cars are still high, so a wholesale or salvage car...or....soon to be flood damaged from the south will be the targets for a build.

id love to hear more from some actual builders/racers. theres VERY little on the net right now from those in the IT process with a mini.

I race SSB in CFR with a 2006 Cooper S. The fastest IT-B cars here are within 2 seconds of my times and the couple of cars are within 1/2 to 1 second. The fasr ones are GTI's and hondas. The standard mini will be hard pressed to keep up I am afraid, even with all the legal mods. Take a look on mylaps.com to check it out. Look for sebring and daytona. Here is a link, i don't know if it work work.. http://www.mylaps.com/results/showrun.jsp?id=919241
