Ultra-Gauge

I installed an ultra-gauge today on the Paceman. It is like an equivalent to the Scangauge II. Both have too many features than I will ever use. The ultra-gauge was only $79 with mount and delivered after rebate where the Scangauge II would have cost me $179 delivered without a mount.

I think I am only going to monitor Engine Temp, Boost, AFR, and Timing but it also reads/resets codes and pending codes so it will be nice having that available all the time.

Does it draw power when the car is off? I know on the website they claim it auto shuts the display, but it doesn't say if it still draws power.

$179 for a ScanGauge? You can get them for $120 on sale with an Autozone coupon, or $150 online generally.

I prefer them since you can change display colors, have oil temps, and oil pressure IMHO two critical measurements that the UG can't do. (N18 and later).

But, glad you're happy.

How does it do oil temp? I don't think there is a temp sensor on the mini on the oil, the bmw does though.

Also $120 is still more than $79 and still wouldn't come with the mount. I was quoting the price for Amazon or way motor works for the scan gauge.

The power mode said it turns off until it senses higher voltage (alternator running) then the gauge comes back on.

I believe temp is calculated off the oil pressure solenoid's resistance, as there is no separate "sensor" like most other cars have.. Its data is only available VIA CANBUS data. The Scangauge can be coded (for free) to read CANBUS data. Whatever the data value is, its accurate, I've measured against a temp-gun on the oil pan just for the heck of it. (In short, I believe its a calculated measurement based off the current demands of the solenoid/variable displacement oil pump ..)

Its nice to see when your really able to safely whoop on the turbo when its cold out. Its also handy for hot-run shutdowns... I generally wait until water and oil are within 10 degrees of each other before I shut the car down.

How do you like your Ultra Gauge now? I'm seriously considering one. I like the price, compared to the Scan Gauge, and I like the form factor, but that's just my personal opinion. I really don't like the lack of gauges on the MINI, especially after having problems with the engine temp.

Keep in mind that Scangauge now includes Oil pressure, as well as oil temp..

To me, those are two critical gauges I would not want to be without, rather that just temp and 3 other useless gauges.

ultra gauge reads directly from the ecu via obd port, reads pretty much everything scan gauge can. you can custom set up any parameters that the ecu provides.

So it can read CANBUS data? I have yet to find anyone who has the ability to do this with an Ultra Gauge. The oil pressure/temp are not OBDII protocols or parameters.

which version did you buy? Ultra gauge EM plus or the MX? Do you know what different between EM plus and MX? Is it accurate?

Ultra gauge EM plus.

There is a FAQ http://ultra-gauge.com/ultragauge/su...uge-mx-FAQ.htm

It is accurate and easy to use for my few areas I want to view live.

Yes our Scangauges come preprogrammed with the oil pressure and oil temp for the N18 engine cars.

Do you sell the mount for Scangauge II for R60? I can only find the R50,52,53,55,56,57, but didn't see any for R60.
