In August I started to feel the chattering that everyone starts to feel when the Dual mass flywheel and or clutch starts going out. In my case, the clutch looked great but the Dual Mass flywheel started to degrade. I made the decision to change over to a single mass flywheel and clutch as this was a job I NEVER wanted to do again. What a pain in the rear to change the clutch! Everything went together relatively smoothly and I have been driving the car for the last few months. Loved the feel of the clutch and have had zero issues. No weird noises, or anything out of normal.
Last Friday I am driving home from work and turn a corner. Immediately after shifting into 3rd gear while accelerating out of the corner, I felt a very light Pop feeling and lost all drive. It was like I put the car in neutral or pushed the clutch all the way in. Revved the engine with no drive in any gear. NOT Good.
Had it towed back to the house and went through the process of pulling the transmission out again to find this. The center section of the clutch plate sheered from the 8 spot welds holding it all together. Completely explained what had happened, but does not explain why or if anyone else had this issue after changing to single mass flywheel.
The car is a 2012 countryman which is completely stock. No power adders.
