Tracking down engine noise.
Hey folks, I have 2013 countryman S all4. I'm trying to track down the source of a noise I'm hearing during cold start ups. The sound is similar to what I've heard from a bad water pump.
Basically the noise begins upon start up and then it subsides and disappears completely at the end of the start up sequence as the idle lowers to a normal rpm. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with something similar.

50k miles is where some of these HPFPs start going. What you explained is a very common symptom of an HPFP starting to go. Best bet is taking it in to get diagnosed.
Mine just had to be replaced in Jan, i was at around 50k miles. My would hesitate at start up, eventually grew to where I would get a power cut from the HPFP not being able to feed the proper fuel.
