Help! Is this a clutch issue?

Hi everyone. I just bought a 2015 All4S with 24,000 miles and I was having some fun tonight trying to get better at getting quick off the line starts. I did two runs that were decent but then the last red light I wasn't even trying to get up and go and the revs were going very high like I didn't know how to drive a stick and I made sure the clutch was completely disengaged and the car was barely moving. I shifted into second and the revs maintained a high level (around 5K) and yet the car was crawling. I felt like a fool teenage kid that was trying to show off and didn't know how to drive a stick. It was embarrassing. I was freaking out for a second as I was unsure if I was going to make it up the hill I was on. (normal incline) The next light I was all paranoid but it pulled off just fine. What's the deal? Also, I should note, this car makes me feel very rusty when it comes to stick but after reading the clutch complaints, I am realizing it's not me.

Yup

I did one already. The car was going forward but very slowly. I haven't checked the dozens of pages to see if someone out there has my exact situation because that takes a ton of time. I guess I can spend hours looking though, seems that is your answer.

There's nothing special about your clutch issue. If its not engaging properly and needs to be fixed, then it will need to go to a mechanic.

Okay

A well know person from this site actually thought it may be a vacuum leak which makes more sense to me as I don't feel the clutch slipping. Thus my question.

Others have talked about a defective wheel speed sensor causing problems like this. At least with the older generation cars. Not sure about this generation.

I'm guessing here but if you have a vacuum leak or wheel speed sensor issue I'd think it would be throwing some OBD codes. Do you have a reader to check it out?

Good point. I missed the absence of that key clue. On the Gen 1s a light or two would be on with a bad wheel speed sensor. I assume the same would be true for this Gen.

today I hit the gas at 3k rpm and the car stuttered and then surged. Going to dealer tomorrow so hopefully they figure it out.

Update!

The dealership told me the car was receiving error codes for misfiring and knocking. Replaced the ignition coils which appeared to be faulty and caused the spark plugs to wear out faster (car has 24K miles on it). So far, the car hasn't had any of those prior issues. Seems like the problem is solved and all under warranty.

Mine since the first week of having it would do something similar to what you're experiencing. There's a fine line between getting the revs and turbo lag gone, when letting the clutch all the way out, and keeping the clutch depressed too long and the boost comes on then releasing the clutch pedal 100% and hearing it slip and pull away slowly while the rpms stay at 3k rpm.

At 46k the clutch plate started chattering. Took it in. The dealer said the warranty on the clutch ran out at 36k miles and a new one would cost 3k w/a new flywheel. I said no and can deal with the chattering which only seems to happen when I'm driving with other ppl in the car and trying to not take off from the stop light, briskly.

58k and the chattering have gotten a bit less prominent and an occasional abrupt grabbing is occurring. It's been quite a puzzle to figure out how to drive this clutch, which I've been driving clutch transmissions for 30 years. This one is kicking my a$$.

I'm gonna see if can get the car to 100k miles and have an aftermarket clutch/flywheel installed by the local MINI garage.

Before it leaves you stranded somewhere, why not consider an after market clutch now?

That's a good question. Not in the budget right now. The sad truth and the risk I'll have to take.
