Overly Sensitive Seatbelt Sensor??

Had my car about 2 weeks now and twice the passenger seat belt warning light/alarm has popped on out of nowhere. Now I'm a chick and I keep my purse in the passenger seat but most of the time that my purse is there, there's no alarm, warning or whatnot. It's just happened a couple of times randomly out of nowhere....what's up??

It's only happened to me one time but I did have quite a bit of stuff piled in the seat. Others have reported that setting their phone in the seat will set it off! That would annoy me to know end. It must be fairly common among the whole line-up since a company created a product just for this issue!

Apparently I have the heaviest iPhone 4s. My passenger seat always goes off. I just toss the phone around on the seat and then it goes off.

I carry a gym bag and my lunch hooked on the headrest on a daily basis with no issues. I'm guessing the phone signals are interfering with the sensor.

I throw my EVO on the seat next to me all the time. Mostly when I'm streaming music via Bluetooth. It has never caused it to set of the seat belt chime. I think k it is just a bad batch of sensors that went in!

I always keep my messenger bag in the passenger seat. The seatbelt chime only comes on when I put my phone on the sit. It is so weird. I have loads of stuff there but the phone sets it off. I just move my phone a bit and it stops. the beeping will stop after a few minutes if you choose to ignore it.

This happened to me today and I didn't have a clue what was happening. Now seeing these posts- I did have my cell phone and only my cell phone on the passenger seat.

I'm coding out the passenger seatbelt warning as soon as I get time to make the update.

I'm afraid I have to change my tune here a bit...
I have since had my phone set it off once or twice. It seems it has to be in just the right spot for it to happen. When I hit the gym, I throw my water bottle and shaker bottle (protein shake) on the seat, and have no problems. It's just odd how random it is.

My passenger seatbelt alarm goes off when I put just my phone on the passenger seat, but not always. Seemingly random, but only caused by the phone. I assume the phone is emitting some kind of signal that trips the seatbelt sensor. Good to know it's not just me...

My iPhone5 will trigger the sensor - however it depends on where the phone is sitting on the passenger seat. Towards the center near the stitching - it'll trigger the sensor, but further forward won't. At some point I'll take a look at it, but right now I just keep my backpack in the back instead of on the passenger seat so I don't have to worry about it...

I had it happen to me often - even with a small box Kleenex... So since I don't have a lot of passengers I just keep my front seatbelt latched all the time.

I asked my dealer about this yesterday because I had listed the possibility of a faulty sensor in my service order. She told me that there is now a heat component in the passenger seat sensor, so if you put something warm in 'just the right spot', it will trigger the passenger sensor and seatbelt chime. This happens with my cell phone if it is particularly warm; running GPS or on the charger... Irritating.

My seatbelt chime will sometimes sound "out of nowhere" too when there's something on the seat and I travel over rough road. The jostling will set it off. The chime is too loud and sensitive in my view.

I too have had the sensor go off with my purse in the seat. I have an iPhone, but it is usually sitting in my phone cradle.

Mine was overly sensitive too. You have to talk to it in gentle, encouraging tones, really be supportive. Sometimes a seatbelt sensor whisperer (kind of like the dog whisperer) can be of great help, but they are expensive. With tons of positive reenforcement, I was able to desensitize my sensor to some degree; I can yell at on occasion now and it can handle it without a nervous breakdown.

Talked to my dealer too. For me, it only happens when my phone/device is plugged in to anything - power, USB or even audio jack. If I unplug it, the warning bell stops. Dealer basically said it's a known issue but no fix. I know know if I plan on charging my phone and throwing it on my seat just to buckle the passenger side seatbelt.

When I had my R60 S and mentioned this to the SA during my first annual service, the form was returned stating "the manual states 'do not put any items on the passenger seat'"

That was their answer. Apparently "any items" includes cell phones and other items that weigh less than a lb. One of the reasons I got out of it after 18 months, I was tired of all of the gremlins.
