Passenger Seat belt sensor?

When I plug in my phone car charger to the lighter the passenger seat belt light/buzzer goes off with no one in seat.

It is a little sporadic, but has anyone else seen this?

Just a question, are you placing the phone in the seat? I havd placed my phone in the passenger seat and it caused the car to think a passenger was in the seat. Usually it is a certain weight limit but, I guess it is just super sensitive.

Plenty of people have this problem, though I surprisingly haven't even though I ride around with a backpack or gym bag most days. You can get a false buckle, such as Chimex to stop it from happening.

Mine does that is well. Only if the phone is plugged in and charging. Nothing else is on the seat but the phone. It is intermittent. However as soon as I pick up the phone it stops.

Don't know if it is EMI or the heat from charging the battery (my Droid gets a bit warm charging).

I have put lots of other things in the seat and it does not cause the seatbelt chime to go off. However just having the phone charging while on the seat can cause the seatbelt chime to go off. Sometimes it takes 10 minutes, sometimes 40 or 50 minutes.

Very weird.

I have had it happen to. My phone is on an extender cable and I keep it in the little mesh pocket down by the passenger floor area. Its out of the way for driving and I am not tempted to look it. Don't really need to as I have MINI Connected so I can phone anyone in my contact list without touching the phone.

Maybe you just happen to be placing the phone on the exact spot where the sensor is, and even though a gym bag is heavier overall, the weight is spread out and does not push down on the sensor with as much force?

It happens when I plug my GPS unit into the lighter socket. Multiple times, and with nothing in the passenger seat. It never happens without something plugged into the lighter. Something is screwy...
