How many failed HPFPs? Enough to investigate?

How many failed HPFPs? Enough to investigate?
Curious as to how many 2011 R60s are needing to have the high pressure fuel pump replaced?
We have a 2011 S All4 and last Wednesday my wife called me to tell me that the check engine light came on when she started it then it went away. Now, the CEL stays on and often accompanied by the light in the tach and limp mode after a cold start. There's also a terrible idle after cold start which fits with reported symptoms and codes indicate misfires across all cylinders along with the dreaded "P0087 Fuel Rail/System Pressure Too Low" which all but confirms the HPFP is failing.
I have a communication in to MINI as this car only has 37,000 miles on it and I'm curious as to what they'll say.
As MINI extended the warranty on previous years HPFP (with BMW recalling them) it feels like this is a concern and possible engineering flaw that could leave someone stranded or in harms way if they are unable to accelerate to avoid an accident. As with anything, if there aren't enough complaints about this then it isn't an issue.
I didn't know if we should start a poll?
Additionally, is there work under way to start an investigation?
Thank you!
Eric

MINI has extended the warranty on the HPFP assembly? I wasn't aware as everything I read says they only extended through 2010 model year and we don't have a warranty or certification.
Thanks!

While it's awesome that BMW is owning this issue it is concerning that they haven't redesigned the pump to prevent future failures.
I can imagine the frustration if this were to happen while on vacation or en route to an important event - the car is driveable but a flashing CEL is never a good sign.

People who run their cars low enough to get air in the system (as dangerous to a hp pump as excess water) CAN still kill them....
So I suggest folks avoid running their cars below a 1/4 tank....then again this has been good practice for every car with a fuel pump for years....
Good luck, hopefully the new part # makes this whole ordeal/oddesy a forgotten memory!!

My out of warranty 2012 just got a new HPFP this morning. I was going in for maintenance and because I got the reduced power message every day, several times. Finally it was storing codes when I took it in.
The part was in stock and covered under the aforementioned warranty extension on the part.
Took all of an hour for them to do the 40k service and pump work.

Does anyone have specific information about what pumps/part number were used in what years, and if one was more reliable than another? I recall this from another post...
Mine is a 2011 R55S so looks like continental.

Guys, thanks for the input....
My old motor 2011 had the Continental HPFP and the new replacement 2012 has the Bosch.
The connector for the Volume control is different between the two. I traced them down to different points on the X60231 plug( plugs into the DME ). Luckily I have both of the wiring harnesses. But when I look at the pin out for the DME there is only one reference pin for the Continental and where the Bosch would land, it is a empty pin.
So I am wondering if I needed the DME that came with the Bosch HPFP or will my original work as well?
Any help is greatly appreciated

high-pressure fuel, plausibility: pressure too low
Code: 002C01
It's been almost exactly a year. Bummer.

My local mechanic did not use the OEM HPFP and I’m not sure the brand he used and I’m 13k miles on that HPFP that was replaced on 10/13/2016.
I can ask him if your interested on which one he used

Since I was at a MINI dealership, I assume they used the original factory pump. And that's where I'll go to get another one for free.

I think I'm begining to see symptoms.
On cold start it'll be a rough/jerky idle, then be good for basically the rest of the day.
The MINI dealer near me said they basically wont replace it until it fails, or meets specific diagnostics of codes...
Is this true? Or should I try another dealer?

then they went to the 3/2012 version. 1351860510
8/2010+ Fits the R60/R61 S/SX(All4)/JCW , then you have the

Honestly, they last half as long as an oil change.

I had an Audi 2.0 FSI and had to rebuild the HSFP, what I found when I took it apart was due to the long oil change intervals the oil was sludging up inside the pump and causing it to stick and throw the code.
This may not be relevant, but has someone tried taking one apart to see what's going on or if you may be able to "clean" it?
