Trying out Bolt-on exhaust tips
So we all know the CMS tips look pathetic. Decided to try "bolt-ons" OVER the stock tips.
I noticed a lot of them out there that could fit a 2 7/8" pipe and that lets them slide over the stock tips (which are roughly 2 3/4"), while being able to bolt onto a small 1.75+" pipe.
I picked up some of these from Advance Auto since they had a 25% off coupon.

Got them home and realized the 2 7/8" diameter doesn't 'go all the way through'. It drops to like 2" at the internal resonator part.
Said, screw it for $15 and grabbed the Dremel. Cut the perforated resonator just behind the tapered part inside the tips. then hammered out the tapered part towards the bolt-on side, leaving just the outer wall and the rear tapered ring.
Without the resonator part the tips can slide all the way up until they touch the stock tips
My one 'before and after' (with the non-cut tip just hanging over the stock one)
Probably should have gotten the slanted ones but these were cheaper as an experiment goes (The 'EX-1013' ones are the slanted version of these.)
And then I gave it a bath and took one more
So if the clamps hold tight this will be a pretty decent mod. Love the look. Really great from behind. I should have taken a better picture but didn't think about it until backed into the garage again!

Yeah this is very true. I am good about maintaining and polishing ect, but even if the outer part stays good I could see the tapered ring inside just rusting away. We shall see!

Small update.
Using the 3 'clamps' that are on the tips, I just couldn't get them to sit best since the stock CM pipes are slightly angled in relation to the tip.
I used a longer (in this case, allen head) bolt so that one of the three mounting points could be longer. I put this toward the top so that it would help angle the tips downward at the rear and sit nicer.
Can sort of see the bolt back there. Just used a second nut as a lock nut.
finally took a better rear shot of em

Picked some up cheap at a flea market, gutted them today during some free time at work. I'll be installing them later this week.
Cheers.

Granted, some cheap tips are certainly better than others. Need stainless instead of just chrome.
