Pure Red Countryman at SF Auto Show looks orange

I feel like this has been mentioned before?
Wife was not happy... uh oh. We have a pure red on order we have been waiting a while for.
I swear I have seen pure red at the dealer and it didn't look like this.
I hope it really is the lighting, but next to a chili red mini copper
it totally looks orange.

Not feeling good about this!

Ummm... You may want to place a new order. Search for the term "pure orange" for more info. Hope it all works out!

EDIT

I thought that search would help, but returns instead a ton of threads. Sorry about that. From my personal viewing of the car, it can appear orange and it can appear red. It comes to personal preference, but if you're expecting a chili red color, this isn't it. Good luck!

You have every reason to feel good about joining the Pure Red club. We're a unique group with a unique color. True, it's not what you expect - it's much more.

It's a great color, but it is much more orange hued than the Chili Red.

Uh, Duh, the Pure Red looks...
Orange?

Best advice - research the Pure Orange references at NAM.

While we didn't want the color for ourselves, it's grown on us over time and we think it looks OK now. And not just because of Sealy's advocacy...

We have a Pure Red CM on order......

The color looks anywhere from Orange to Red (not Chili Red), depending on the light. It looks more Red when it is dark/cloudy and more Orange in bright, direct light. Very unusual, and distinct. The wife likes it!

Red has been a hot topic at my house for years.
When we ordered the BEP I wanted red with black top. My partner said it looked like a blood clot. We ended with Pepper White and black top.
Fast forward almost six years and I'm ordering a coutryman. I actually wanted yellow with black. That went over like a fart in church - a silent but deadly one. Then I said "what about red with black and red color line interior?" The response had something to do with me thinking I was Cinderella riding in a pumpkin... Needless to say, sarcasm runs rampant in this household.
End result is I have a greenish gray CM with beige / black interior in my future - nice but nothing that really stands out. Enjoy the pure red, even if it's not exactly as pure a red as chili red.

I saw a pure red at the dealer the other day and it definitely looked orange red (or red orange depending on your point of view). I liked the color A LOT. It's bright, that's for sure, but it's very different and I like that. Then again, I ordered a spice orange MCS, so I guess that tells you where I'm coming from. If the OP is looking for something that really is "pure" red, this color may not be it. As others have said, it isn't chili red at all, but that's why I like it. I wish I could have gotten pure red in the MCS.

Many of the CM colors are light sensitive. Under the lights at an auto show is going to be much different than out and about. When I started looking at CMs, the PR drove me nuts. I'd look at it in the sun and I'd hate it. Then I'd see it in the shade and love it. Inside the dealership was WTF were they thinking. I finally took the plunge and I'm a happy camper.

Your apprehensions are not misplaced. The color does lean towards the orange side of red. That said, it does change depending on the light.

I passed on my vehicle for several months specifically due my concern over the shade of red. My wife has a Chili Red and it's nowhere near the same. However, as this was the last 2011 on the lot and the dealer was motivated to sell it, my concerns evaporated as the dollars (thousands!) came of the price.

I added black stripes on the boot, bonnet and sides which, along with the black roof, helps break up the color and now could not be happier with the choice.

that's good to here because this is exactly the color and striping I ordered (plus you can always add stripes)

well no choice but to let the car arrive and see how it looks. Mini girl at the show agreed that placing it next to a chili red cooper AND a rust-colored (cant remember what) under bluish/white lights was a mistake

In the end, I don't think it'll matter after you and she step in and take it out for an extended spin! It's definitely a distinctive color on a distinctive car!

I'm still amazed at the head turning that occurs when we drive down a street - I think most of them thinking "what the heck is that thing!"

Your combo will look sharp and after you get it this thread will be a distant memory!

We're growing to accept our fate, and being a huge SF Giants fan,
having an "orange" and black mini is starting to actually make sense.
The current favorite, has the MCS being born with the name "Gigante"
or something like that...

I had seen a pure red at the dealer, but I saw one today "in the wild". I liked it at the dealer and I liked it even better today. Awesome color! Wish I could have gotten it for my MCS.

I don't think I've seen Pure Red in person, but I've seen the comments on here about it's color being different than expected. Surf Blue is the same way, it looks different in different light...sometimes greenish, sometimes dark blue, bright blue, etc. I guess it's so we don't get bored!

My spice orange is the same way ranging from pretty bright to almost a brownish color. It's one of the things I like about it.
