Drivetrain Methanol directly into tank?
Methanol directly into tank?
All right I have a unique situation. I'm moving from Utah to Washington, a moving company is going to be taking all my stuff for me. They will not transport chemicals, gasoline, of any kind. I have about 2 gallons of Methanol I bought for my meth injection kit. My kit is not installed yet, and I have no means of disposing this methanol. If I have a mostly full tank of gas, will it hurt anything to put the two gallons into the tank?
DO NOT ADD TOO YOUR FUEL. PERIOD. folks may debate it, but don't do it. less btu's per gallon...you might gain octane, but will run lean, etc...car is not made to use meth this way...if it was that simple, why would folks use meth kits?

It would be similar to mixing in E85. You can do the calculation to see if the ECU could compensate for the lower energy density without maxing out fuel trims.
If you figure the tank is 13.2 gallons then E10 would be 1.3 gallons of ethanol. Methanol IIRC is slightly less energy dense than ethanol so adding 2 gallons to 13.2 tank would be like running E20. People have commonly run E25/E30 with no issues. This is something that the ECU could overcome.
If it was me I'd find a way to dispose of it. Your local government should have some kind of chemical disposal program. Otherwise people would pour it in the woods (which is bad).

Methanol will evaporate....
It is just a VOC...
Pour it out....let it evoprate, burn it. Heck dilute it by flushing it down the toilet...be no worse that getting rid of a few gallons of booze...or "ever clear"... Can't drink it, you will go blind...
A mover will not move a HAZ-MAT...too much paperwork...

Zippy's right, just pour it down the drain. It would be like pouring out Vodka.

DO NOT pour it down the drain! Check your city/county website for proper hazmat disposal. They probably either have a drop off or pickup service.
Contrary to bad advice above, it's not the same as vodka. Especially if you consider that it may either go into the environment or into a water treatment plant and be coming out of your tap some day.

It is hazardous because of flammability....

By the nature of it being a VOC, it will evaporate in the sewage treatment when it is treated in secondary treatment with airbubbles ( it primary reason is it encourages Bactria to grow to use up phosphorus)
guess if you live in the backwoods where sewage is dumped in a river things might be different....primary (solids removal) and secondary treatment has been required for years....Anybody with hazmat training, for transport, packaging or cleanup knows, the "solution to pollution is dilution"....and in this case, while 100% methonol is a hazmat, just 60% is sold nonhazmat at the auto store as windshield washer fluid....
PS
any food wastes (carbo based or sugar) that stews aka ferments enroute to treatment can make various forms of liquor.. Lol...hundreds of types of non consumable ones according to basic highschool chemistry...and only one type, ethanol, that is consumable...

Fine fine. I just checked my locality and found something interesting.

4. Tertiary Treatment/Chemical Addition
From the secondary clarifiers, wastewater goes through a process designed to remove nitrogen and the remaining phosphorus. Methanol is added to the water, which then passes through a sand filter where “bugs” grow. The " bugs" then convert the remaining nitrogen oxides to nitrogen gas.
A 5 percent sodium hypochlorite solution disinfects the water, then another chemical, sodium bisulfite, neutralizes the residual chlorine. Finally, air is diffused into the water to add oxygen so that fish and other life forms can survive in it. This makes the water safe for release through the plant’s outfall into Four Mile Run.
