Drivetrain Cooling Fan for the R60 High Flow Intake
Cooling Fan for the R60 High Flow Intake
Hello Everyone,
Last week I put this fan in the intake tube of the Countryman. It gives fresh air to the air filter when I'm stopped or in slow traffic. It works on a toggle on the dash. May not be for everyone, but for autocross staging, it is reducing the intake temp by 20 degrees.

DIY for it will be the first reply

Here is the DIY. It's my first one, so don't be too harsh. I have the nm high flow intake that does not seem to get any cool air unless driving.

As you can see, the filter is not getting fresh air without the hood up or travelling 20 mph. Enter the i-O port racing cooling fan. 3.5 cfm and 3 inches across.

Components. I used the fan off of ioportracing.com, 16 guage wire (or whatever you already have), toggle switch, 2 wire connectors, 2 battery post connectors, 2 3" hose clamps, and a handful of zip ties.

The original air pipe for the factory intake.

The air pipe removed from the car. I cut out the ribbed section that would be closest to the front of the car. Make a one inch cut into the lip of the cut pipes on both sides. This allows the fan to fit.

The section I cut out of the pipe.

The toggle switch on the far left driver side panel.

The plastic cover to get through the firewall. Remove the cover, cut the rubber grommet and feed the wires through. There are three clips on the outside of the black plastic cover.
So, first remove the intake pipe. Next, cut the first ribbed section out of it, and cut a one inch slit lengthwise in each of the cut ends. Place the longer end back in place with a hose clamp on the end. Fit the fan in the end. Place the front pipe in place, with the hose clamp on it, and fit the whole thing together, making sure the fan is blowing the right way. Next Run the wires and install the switch. Fire up the fan and adjust tension on the hose clamps. Too much tension will lock up the fan. Clean up and you're done.
Any questions, feel free to send me a message.
