Hey there. Need assistance from the community.
I have a 2013 JCW R59 with auto soft top. Last week the soft top stopped working after I opened the top, so it doesn’t close anymore.
I ran the OBDII and I am getting the following error codes, but can’t find anything else in the net.
I’ve seen similar errors on BMW Z4 pointing to hall sensor. Anyone knows how to reach that part?
what else can be the problem?
trying to avoid dropping the car at the shop, so any tutorials or tips on “how-to” would be greatly appreciated.
Just from the look of it I doubt all these sensors are faulty all at once thus it might be worth tracing back to communication cables and control module that deal with these sensors? You might want to check the fuse box as well. Once in a blue moon one get lucky with a simple fix.
In the interim I would be you I would first find a way to bring the top back up. I believe there is a way to manually get the top back up. I couldn't tell you what it is though. Something I read a while back... I don/t recall being a normal operation though. More like a troubleshooting sort of method.
Thanks TG. Do you know how to manually close the top?
I found a few other threads pointing out to the hall sensor or the wiring harness. links to the schematics below
" Hi Emma, thanks for the reply. My husband has removed and cleaned the sensor near the passenger side window and now it is intermittent. When it starts beeping the boot also locks as well. I read somewhere on here that it could be the battery as my stop start doesn’t work either and the car is now 9 years old. We may replace that and see what happens."
@ECS Tuning thanks for the lead. I suspected it was this part, but the issue I am having is how do I reach this part. Today I found a switch on the driver side, but haven't located any switch on the passenger side. I am suspecting I've been reading UK threads perhaps(?).

Unfortunately I don't myself. Just that I've seen a discussion somewhere before.
Seeing the part diagram again I wonder if it is as simple as disconnecting the hydraulic cylinder from the frame. That being said, if it is stuck open one may want to be careful there is no spring tension to them like a shock absorber!
Yes, keep us posted. I myself would like to know how to do this in case it happens (going on 10 year ownership)...
One last thoughts.
I don't know if it is related to the Hall sensor or not. However as you may know, to open the top one is required to release the top and push it up a little to tell the system it is ready. I don't know how the system knows one has pushed enough for it to detect it is now possible to open. And I know for a fact that sometime you need to push a little more as the top gets holder, straps sags and the top has a tendency to close itself on release.
I mention this because if the sensor that detect the behavior is something like a proximity sensor (like on some wifi garage door opener), sensor failure may not be detected as there is nothing to tell the sensor has failed.

Didn't see this. Great!
Yeah, they drive on the wrong side of the road. They don't know their left from their right :D...lol
PS: What do you mean by switch?
