I have a 2013 Countryman R60, and I have an issue with the oil filter cap leaking out of the hex head area. There are two tabs (not sure what they are for) but this is
where the oil is seeping out of. Anyone have an answer to why this is happening? I have replaced the cap and the new one leaks as well. I have another on order. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Nick
Those two tabs allow the cap to latch into the socket used for removal. There shouldn't be any leakage at those tabs, as they don't have a path to the inside of the cap. If you have oil on those tabs, I would look at whatever is above the cap for leakage, like the turbo oil supply pipe...

Thank you for your input. the tabs had me wondering till you explained what they were for. I do not have a turbo or anything that could leak oil from above the filter cap. I started the engine and saw it come out from that area. I waiting for my new cap to arrive. Taking the one that is leaking back to the auto part store. I'll just have to wait and see.
If you actually saw oil coming out of there, yikes! I never would have guessed there would be a flow path there. Maybe an imperfection in the casting process?
