New-to-me 2013 Roadster JCW - WOW!

Hello all, nice to see and join a Roadster forum!

I have just picked up a beaut 2013 JCW in LA, and repatriated it back to Canadian soil - two days on the coastal highways and the I5. There are no words...!

I have spent the last 3 years in a Countryman S All4, and while it seemed like a great compromise, it didn't give me the driving pleasure of the Cooper S, and didn't quite meet the space needs as well as I had hoped, so we parted as friends. My husband's recent purchase of an SUV freed me up from being the "family" vehicle - enter The Roadster.

With everything I had read in mind (uncomfortable seats, rough ride, etc), I expected a tiring journey, but experienced nothing of the sort. Top down for almost the whole trip (except for a wicked rainstorm in Oregon) - it hugged the wet and dry pavement and handled the curves beautifully. Fantastic vehicle - this one's a keeper!

Thanks you! It seems pretty loaded - lounge leather, Harmon Kardon, nav, power roof, sport button, power mirrors, comfort access etc - so far, the only things I seem to be missing are... a stick shift (), Sirius satellite radio, and the openometer.

I adapted very quickly to driving an automatic, and haven't tried out the paddle shifters yet, as I just don't think it will be the same.

I have to say though - yours is quite striking - the blue is such an appealing colour.

Thank you, the Kite Blue color really drew me into my MINI

I have the paddle shifters too, but I agree that it doesn't give the same feeling as a real manual. I feel like there is to much delay between hitting them and the actual gear change.

Enjoy your new ride!

Welcome! The Roadster is a true future classic. So many of us at MINI Takes The States this year, way out of proportion to the number of cars sold in total marks it as a real "MINI enthusiast" car along with things like the GPs.

I picked up a British Racing Green Cooper S in February. I use the car for weekly commutes of about 250 miles each way- normally I make that drive 2 days each week. I was worried about long term comfort but have no concerns after 10k miles.

Lounge/connected/power/sport/Sirius/manual- I think it has every option other than automatic.

Quicksilver exhaust, Manic stage 2, Wagner IC, Alta intake (sound only), and the NM motor mount inserts- and she is nearly perfect.

I am also surprised at the boot capacity. We regularly go to the grocery store and haul home 250-300 dollars worth with no problem. If you don't need a backseat, there is no reason to buy a convertib vs. roadster.

[QUOTE=spiney;4225917]Welcome! The Roadster is a true future classic.

The fact that the Roadster had been discontinued was a definite selling point for me - I actually liked the Coupe, but between circumstance and advice from my local dealer (if you buy a Coupe, you'd better love it, because you might have trouble finding a buyer if you decide to sell), I ended up with the Roadster. Total convert to the ragtop now! I figure this one will be in the family for a very long time...

Congrats on your purchase - I love the British Racing Green. Black interior or toffee?

I too was surprised by the size of the boot! I flew down with a friend to pick up the car and told her to pack a *very* small bag, but we had heaps of room for the suitcases, bought our husbands a 24 pack of beverages each, threw in four bags of groceries before crossing the border, and still had room for more. I haven't loved a vehicle this much since my old '69 SWB Landrover!

Thank you! I agree the missing openometer is a mystery. The first owner didn't remove it, and from what I read, it is standard. Mine was manufactured in Sept 2012, and the original owner took possession in July of 2013, and only put 5K miles on it.

I've scrolled through all the options on the gauge, watched the YouTube videos, read the forums, posted on the Openometer forum, and have come to the conclusion that they decided not to taunt Canadians with the lack of top-down days

Here are the specs on the car. I'm not sure if others have a separate line item for openometer:

OK then! Looks like I'm missing my 6A1. I'm certainly OK about this and won't be seeking out aftermarket solutions (and like the clean lines of the single gauge), but my curiosity of finding what was purported to be a standard item kept me digging.

FYI - I had a 2010 Camden with Mission Control and get a kick out of Mini's odd little quirky extras... but hit the "off" button in the glove compartment after, oh, two days of narration.

I wonder what this does though

Welcome to NAM and congrats on your beautiful roadster. Please feel free to ask any questions!

Here is a handy service and maintenance guide for your review and let us know if we can help in any way. I can identify with the Oregon rain!

Thank you for the congrats and the guide - I figure I'd best clear out the garage, because the BC rain makes window channels into window moss gardens - I'd hate to think what it would do to the roof after a few years...

Bahahaha! I'll have a look for that - maybe a set of false eyelashes in the glove compartment? Time space continuum rift inducer? Sweet fragrant pastries (I could be treading on dangerous ground here - I have the utmost respect for law enforcement...!)

The Openometer is something they stuck on for giggles it seems. Not all that useful. Maybe your Roadster still keeps track of the total time with top open in the info screen menu?

COP CONTROL. Have to love BMW speak. Looks good on paper. I want the TICKET DISABLER option or RADAR GUN SPEED DISPLAY NORMALIZER. Haven't gotten any speeding tickets with this car, but it sure does seem to catch attention. On several local trips lately, my mirrors have been full of State Police vehicles checking out this little car. It's a good thing that I stay close to the speed limits.

Nice low miles find, and what a great trip to get it home. I was expecting the same thing after doing the research before trying and buying a roadster, a rough riding car with a somewhat uncomfortable interior. I found the seat easy to dial in for comfort and the ride is what really sold me. An already classic keeper for sure. Enjoy!!

Thank you - this one is definitely a keeper. It's my 3rd Mini Cooper S (2010 Camden Cooper S on lease, then a 2013 Countryman S ALL4) and by far my favourite (hence the =MC3 part of my name). This is The One.

I have been scrolling through the options - I assume Cop Control refers to the speed alarm that you can set - go over a certain speed and the car will signal you with an alarm. Definitely would like the Ticket Disabler though ;p

COP stands for coil on plug , instead of one coil feeding current to all plugs.
